    Honda CD250U rebuild

Just back into riding and wanted a cheap clunker to restore/modify. Picked this up at auction. Pipes seem hard to find, have checked ebay uk, davidsilverspares.co.uk and wemoto.com but no joy.

I'm going for this sort of look and I love the note of these pipes cd 250 u honda 1989 - YouTube honda cd 250 u chop project - YouTube

I laughed that they were trying to spin up the back wheel in these clips

Does anyone know at least the style of these pipes?

I'll get it good enough for rego then I'll be rebuilding and replacing.

Any help is appreciated for seats, pipes, wheels...use originals respoke clean etc or something else...alloy rims with stainless spokes??

I'll add pics as she comes along.

You could probably make these fit - Triumph Speedmaster Exhausts | Motorcycles & Scooters | Gumtree Baldivis

17" Mufler, Megaphone Norton, BSA, Trimph, Cafe Racer. | eBay

    Triumph Thruxton Mufflers | eBay

I've always liked the look of these, like a Commando Interstate's baby brother

reverse cone shorties? Reverse cones or reverse megaphones are whats on my bike, the dunstall replica mufflers. On the honda there is closer to cocktail shaker style mufflers. But unless you really love the stock look, you have a lot of other muffler choices out there to play with, why replicate stock?
Google around, theres megaphones, reverse megaphones, shorty reverse megaphones, cocktail shakers, hotdogs, and for pure classic bike porn but dollars involved, there is no beating supertrapp mufflers!

It's slow going with little time but the enjoyment factor is great. I need to get the bike through a Blue Slip inspection for rego so have decided to pretty her up a little as standard before i start on the mods.

Will be doing a Brat style me thinks, that is once I have it registered.

The bike is running well, just doing as little as possible for rego for now as I want to spend the time and a bit o money making it my own thing.

i can't find any headers anywhere here in Oz or overseas so i think i'll end up painting them black, the rust has really pitted them badly.

I also had my first attempt at polishing some aluminium, I scuffed it with the flapjack but i've since found a couple of really good threads here on the process, learn as we go and I'll get it sweet in the end.

The spoke are really rusted, I'm trying to figure the most cost effective way to go as i want the rims black in the end.I'm trying to figure wether just to clean the spokes as best i can then paint myself or get them blasted and powdercoated or i read on PSB to try and find some motorcross alloy rims for cheap and go from there ( less weight ?? )

Starting to get there for rego, looking a bit better.

I also dropped a 1974?? XL250 tank on it to see what it would look like but I don't think the line is right, also the tank hangs really low close to the fins.

I'm thinking a 73-75 CB125 tank will have the right line/shape/look, jsut got to find one of the bastards in decent nick.

"trojan classics" ebay store, based over east helped my with a few parts including short reverse cone mufflers for my cd250u. sound good. plenty of univeral parts that can be made to fit.
i used wrap to hide my rusty headers rather than paint hah

Thanks Grif, I read a couple of threads on here saying that wrap was bad in that it withheld moisture etc which could damage the pipes but seeing as how they are really rusty I think i'm going to follow your lead. And tyhanks for the lead to Trojan Classics as well.

    Cheers mate.

Wrap doesn't hold moisture, it can hold the heat and crystallise the steel making the pipes really brittle. I don't know that this would be such an issue in exposed pipes on a bike rather than headers under a bonnet

An option, though mybe not if the pipes are too pitted with rust, but if its mostly cosmetic, ceramic coatings or exhausts are around the $300 mark. a bit of an outlay but cheaper than new pipes, and at the same time better and longer lasting than new pipes.

Thanks for the advice 51 New West yeah I like the look of wrap and it's not expensive so cheers for that and @ NMBRPL8 I've tried to find pipes for it, scoured the UK sites, wreckers etc. I'm in Sydney but if you could point me in any direction would be really cool. Grif posted Trojan Classics so I have to check them out.

    Cheers to all.

Hey Grif thanks for that man, really inspired me to see another CD and I dig it!! I'm going for a similar thing as you've done A couple of questions, did the reverse megaphones go onto the stock headers ok and what kind are they?

Thanks again for taking the time man.

With regards to the rusty headers....we could make some new stainless steel ones that would look neat and shiny?

i measured my headers at 35mm diameter, which was the minimum for most of the univeral exhausts on trojan classics. the ones i have fitted are the reverse cone (short), they JUST fit the headers and the mounting bracket was very eailsy manipulted to fit the bike
