Honda SP2 that will never be finished

Well i've had this bike for about 8 months now and love it. Yeah it's not the fastest, it's not the newest and most powerful and on the long hauls it's definately not the most comfortable. BUT it's the bike i've always wanted! Yeah others will still come and go but the only way i'll ever part with this one is if if die, write it off or both! This is my favourite and i'll have it for life.
My plans for it are to not do anything by half and to eventually have a no expense spared superbike for the road, track and lounge room. My budget is definately tight by superbike standards but this is a long term project which i'm not sure will ever be finished. I'll be doing all the work and modifications myself to save money and also because i love it.
Heres a few photos of it as i bourght it The only mod is a set of micron slip on's which were on it.

It's one of those collectibles that comes along only now and then. I've always kept an eye out for one, but when the funds were present the bikes weren't and vice versa.

I bourght this one in nsw and sent it over. Even with freight it was cheaper than the stupid prices people were trying to get for these here in wa.
In the time i've had this bike i've started to do a few small mods mostly cosmetic and a few nice touches.
    So far these are
    Undertail
    led blinkers
Carbon rear hugger and chain guard
    gilles chain adjusters
    Billet fuel cap
    K & N air filter
    Carbon front air intake
Also getting the wheels polished and powdercoated clear now

I've noticed that. On that note, if I had a RVF400 I'd be selling it on the east coast, that LAMS market is a goldmine for some models.

I was a bee's dick away from buying one with 2500kms, totally stock, same colour scheme as yours from Causeway Honda a few years back. Had the cash in my backpack - but the sales guy did the hard sell, "Only one left in the country, better be quick. Nah, you can't ride it. Blah blah blah". That kind of toolish approach is like kryptonite to me. So I went somewhere else.

My 06 ZX10. I'd had pretty much all inline 4s so I thought I'd dabble in the V-twin pot for a bit after Saf spent about an hour bestowing the virtues of his SP2. At the time, nothing available really fit the bill aside from the SP2, I didn't dig the TLRs and there was bugger all around privately apart from a few rough SP1s, so never one to deny myself immediate gratification, I went and bought my 10 figuring I loved the 04. And we've been happy together ever since.

Though I'm thinking it's about time for a threesome.

And I still have lustful thoughts of what could have been when I see an SP2.

    Great Bike.

I love these ever since I rode my cousins RVT 1000 RC51 about 6 - 7 years ago.

It is a definate "want one of these". I am hoping to pick one up in 12 months or thereabouts.

Lets hope that there is a good low km example around.

You can get a great Moriwaki Twin Exhaust for these out of Japan and they sound great. (And F#$king Loud)

    My last project

Heres a few pics of my last project. When i got this thing it was a rusted, scized wreck with no motor. I fitted a KX 125 engine, a few other new bits and pieces then painted it. It's scairy fast with your ass that close to the ground and no suspention.

I'm looking at getting the jardine 2 into 1 system for this bike soon. It's in about a hundred pieces all over the shed at the moment. when it's back togeather in a week or two i'll get some recent photos.

    Blasphemy
    The SPs need twin pipes.

I'll be interested to see how the clear powdercoating over the polished wheels turns out. I'm trying to decide on what type of clear coat to use, myself (paint/powdercoat/ceramic coat).

I had clear powder over polished rims and a few engine bits on my monster.
    Worked well.

Forget the bling. Go and put a factory Superbike kit through it.

IIRC They were getting close to 200hp

+1 to keeping the twin pipes (jardine pipes are pretty "meh" anyway imho).

    1. i'm all for symmetry
    2. as above, they define the look of the bike.

Hi eejay, my mate saw you out the front of the quarterdeck and thought someone stole my bike.

Nothings happening for a few weeks and the bike is still in pieces. I,m up in sunny karatha for work at the moment and am itching to get back, get this thing back togeather and go for a good ride!

I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread from now on. Absolutely love these bikes.

Definitely need to stick to twin pipes though I reckon. Go to KneeDraggers.com - Sportbike Motorcycle Parts, Accessories, and Apparel - Home Page for some full Akrapovic Racing Line exhausts Cost me $2800 and was well worth it. Haven't remapped the PCIII to suit them yet, but there was definitely a power increase when I chucked them on.

Also check out Untitled Document for some other ideas. Someone on there is considering a big bore and stroking out to 1300cc !!!
