Installing Parking sensors on my ZX6

After having some issues with getting my bike around my bastard small garage I went and had a chat with PSB's Elise about some sensors and a visor LED alert. Some top service, PSB discount and good installation advice later I walked out with an armful of boxes.

All that aside, being one for giving things a go myself I got started on it today. Pics are of the overly large variety so I will use spoiler tags for ease of viewing and all that.
    Spoiler: show

First off, I needed to pick a location on the bike that allows the sensor to be horizontal, level and have a good line of sight. I chose above my rear tail light.
    Spoiler: show

This required a fair bit of stuffing about as I wanted a solid mount thats not attached to the muffler (no heat transfer through the metal bracket). In the end I found the bolts to the tail light were long enough and in about the right position. So one custom bit of alloy plate and I was set.
    Spoiler: show

Next its time to figure out how to route the cabling so off with the seats and tail.
    Spoiler: show

Routing the cabling in with the rest of the tail wiring is the easiest solution, especially with undertail exhausts as it's already in a place that won't get it burnt.

What I'm also looking for here is a place to put the brains of the unit. Ideally that is going to be in a place that will keep it fairly well protected from water and probably more important the heat from the engine/exhaust. At this point I'd like to note that 07/08 ZX6's have barely any room under the seats. So, after much stuffing about, swearing and repeatedly moving things about I think I've found a workable solution. I've mounted the power node/VizAlert box under the seat and the AL G9 control box under the tank with the EFI wiring.

    Spoiler: show

Before going much further, the tank and seat need to be dummy fitted back in place to make sure I have clearance.
    Spoiler: show

The seat is just touching the VizAlert box but being rigid on the bottom its all good

OK. Back sensor is in, control boxes in, on to the front.
    Spoiler: show
I thought the rear was a challenge
Biggest problem here aside from the complete lack of solid mounting points is the clearance. To get the unit level it has to sit a fair way down at the back and I get the feeling its curved for a reason...
    Spoiler: show

At this point I decided that getting a spare windshield and mounting it behind the cluster/through the windshield would be the go so it was off to Motorcycle Masters to source a spare...
    Spoiler: show

After this I've had to call it a day. I'll be on shift for the next 4 and will continue after that. Comments, thoughts and ideas are welcome

Thanks Sonik! Your bike in particular was a little trickier as there was no room under the seat, but as promised it can be done. Feel free to pop back in whenever you are free if you would still like the sensor cables shortened. Will take Sean 2 mins!

Only bumping because I saw this all finished yesterday. It looks great and you did a good job Sonik! (especially considering your bike was very short on space. As in less than a Ducati!)

There have been a couple more bikes done since on PSB and we do have some install photos on the website. I'm happy to send them to anyone that wants to see the finished product.
