    K1300R - Carbon

Beginning of this year i purchased a 2011 K1300R SE, with all the fruit

    Standard 02.jpg Standard 01.jpg

Nothing wrong with the bike in the original format other than that exhaust!
First mod was to replace that it with a Remus Hexacone exhaust which dropped around 5kg and, apparently, adds around 5bhp. For a bike that weighs in at 250kg any weight reduction can't be a bad thing.

Next on the cards was the belly pan, ordered one from Germany, ilmberger and waited 6 weeks for it to arrive. During this time I found a company named wunderlich who only make parts for BMW, and oh my god do they have a lot of parts. With a strong aussie dollar against the US i sort of went on a shopping spree

Here is a list of all the parts i have got and put on my bike:

All carbon fiber parts came from ilmberger, through wunderlich, except for a few from bestem USA.
All other mods came from wunderlich america, except for a few from Sato racing.

    • Carbon fiber belly pan

    Belly Pan.jpg

    • Carbon fiber rear hugger
    • Tornado final drive titanium cover - fills in hole in rear wheel
    • Valve caps - original front and rear ones where different colors !!!
    • Carbon fiber clutch cover
    • Carbon fiber exhaust heat cover - from bestem USA
    • Powder coated rear pillion pegs - used Perth Powder Coaters for that
    • Titanium rear brake reservoir cover

    Exhaust.jpg

    • Carbon fiber battery cover
    • Carbon fiber look fuel cap cover
    • Carbon fiber look tank protector

    Tank.jpg

more to come ... silly only 5 attachments per post rule

    • Carbon fiber under seat covers from bestem USA
    • Carbon fiber rear light cover
    • Tail tidy

    Tail.jpg
I managed to remove around 1kg of weight from the rear of the bike due to all the original plastic.

    • Carbon fiber tank panels from bestem USA - picked this one over the ilmeberger due this one having the dimples.

    Tank Panels.jpg
The original tank panels weighed around 500g each, new ones are 150g

    • Carbon fiber look yoke protector
    • Carbon fiber look instrument panel cover
    • Titanium clutch and brake covers

    Instruments.jpg

    • Sato racing engine slider
    • Side stand enlarger

    Side Stand.jpg

    • Carbon fiber mudguard
    • Carbon fiber shock covers - from bestem USA
    • Front wheel sliders
    • Titanium brake caliper covers

    Front Wheel.jpg

    more to follow again ...

    • Vario length adjustable levers

    Levers.jpg

    • Sato racing paralever slider

    Rear Wheel.jpg

    Parts with no pictures:

    • Oil rad guard - painted by potato
    • Rad guard - also painted by potato - original rad guard was plastic
    • K&N air filter

All of this has come to the bike looking like this:

    Current 1.jpg Current 2.jpg

I do have a few more parts coming next week:

    • Sato racing rearsets - black
    • Sato racing frame sliders - front and rear (replaces original frame slider)
    • Carbon fiber air guides - the only replaceable plastic part left on the bike

With all these changes i have prolly dropped around 6kg off rear end and around 1-2 kg off front.

Sorry about quality of last pics but weather is crap, so i had to take inside, and i will update next week when she is complete.

You could also drop 5-6 kg's if you got BST Rims......

After that your next goal is to start replacing everything with titanium..... Across the entire bike, you'll manage to drop about another 1kg as well..... See Pro-bolt for full bike kits.

Awesome, i was wondering if such a thing existed.

Re: carbon wheels, would prolly cost about the same as I have spent already also would they work with the tyre pressure monitor in the wheels?

Finally received my carbon fiber air guides and got to put them on, ambient temp sensor had to be zip tied as the new parts didn't have the mounting point

    Air-Guides.jpg

So the bike is now looking like this:

    Current-4.jpg Current-3.jpg

Also received my Sato racing front and rear frame sliders:

    Frame-Sliders.jpg

Unfortunately i need to get the gold aluminum parts anodized black as they stick out like a sore thumb

I also received my Sato Racing rearsets

Finally got around to getting the gold parts of the frame sliders anodized black.

They are now on, replacing stock ones and adding one to the rear engine bolts on either side.

Got my bolts also, some are on, some are not

Once you get used the the front end you don't know how / why you rode anything else. No diving under brakes, feels like your in full control all the time, not too keen to need to try it but apparently you can brake whilst turning without the bike changing line.
When i get loan bikes the front feels sooo weird, as if i am about to fall over the front when braking
She's a heavy bike but once moving feels as light as my old 250.

Replaced the bar ends on the weekend, with aluminum ones which weigh 10th the weight. Dunno if it is all in my head but the steering has become even smoother / quicker. No vibrations introduced either.

Good thing you're buying it all now, before the carbon tax comes in.

    I'm Jealous

    that bike looks awesome
I put a set of CRG bar end mirrors on mine and think it really improved the look of the front end

    DSC00692-M.jpg

as long as you can deal with constantly adjusting your mirrors they are great, and provide a better view of whats behind you

    Bar end mirrors look nice

I had a look at replacement mirrors and had ruled the bar end mirrors out, as I split a lot in traffic and thought they would get in the way. Do they?

I will hopefully be able to get some nice outside / sunshine pic's this weekend as the replacement black fairing bolts look awesome, only like $3 for the ones for the screen. No more silver dots on the dark screen
