Hello All, and welcome to my motor push bike build thread!
so i ordered a 70cc push bike engine from e bay last Monday, I received it on Friday and got straight to work.
I was lucky to have a donor bike rusting away in the back yard so after about a whole can of CRC, 2 tube repairs, brake adjustments and some more CRC. I finally was able to ride the bike around without fear of death.
first step was to install the rear sprocket which bolts straight onto the hub opposite the gearing sprockets.
Bendito recommended i do a build thread, but i had already started so i don't have pics of this process. But you can see how it works in the pic below.
Now it is time to install the engine it is a very simple design which bolts to the bike frame.
once the engine is in place the chain must be cut to length to suit your bike. The destructions are kinda hard to follow as they are a Chinese translation.
anyway i cut the chain then installed the chain tensioner which you can see bolts to the swing arm. this must be very tight or when starting the engine it will move into the spokes and cause disaster.
then install the carby and the hand throttle along with the fuel tank and its ready to go.
i still haven't installed the stop switch or the chain guard being a bit lazy and just wanting to ride it
the first tank requires a 20:1 fuel mix for break in so I'm not thrashing it to much yet.
also i tried it with the baffles out and whilst being a bit louder it has almost doubled the power, i will be keeping it in for now.
so how does it work?
it has a clutch with a lock on it so you can still pedal as it allows chain to turn. then release the clutch whilst still pedaling and the motor putts into life. then its pedal free cycling from there.
the kit looks a bit cheap but with a few mods I'm sure it will last a while. the bolts which hold the tensioner on were crappy 4.8 grade bolts and would not cut the mustard, so i replaced them with 8.8 bolts and nuts which can be tightened much more.
i think it does about 60 but i have herd of them doing 80+ so I'll do some testing after the break in and post up again.
