I'm sure IC engines under 200W are extremely rare (google reveals none) however dpi's factsheet states we are permitted to ride a petrol or electric powered bicycle of less than 200W. Therefore a petrol bicycle having similar performance characteristics to a 200W electric one is likely to easily slip under the radar IMHO.
I guess my point was that the meaty-sounding, wheel-spinning beast in this thread would attract more attention than a lesser, clutch-slipping, whining p1ss-poor motorized bike.
That however, should not be interpreted as criticism or a reason not to ride it.
Why not look into small-capacity NOS kits on ebay?
Nice job. Had this when in melbourne (still got it just have a license again so no reason to get it going) the motors are weak, the casting will just break etc. Fun while it lasts though.

mine had dodgy castings the clutch action smashed one side. The bolts holding the exhaust and carb are shit. I did thraaaaaaaaaaaaaash mine. I like the look of mine in the frame. I have a 1500cc version as well, and a couple of 750's ; )
Oh yeah as well don't bother about the filth, had a huge arguement with a "smart" one about kilowatts etc. Had a stack hat on a bell brakes every thing legal and because I was keeping up with traffic (easily! mine is an 80cc) he reckons it was above 25cc. I said you can't buy them in australia thats why it must be legal, we argued, he gave up. Also he seen me clutch it off the lights with no pedals, his understanding (dont know if this is what they are told) that to be legal on a "road" they are to be assisted bicycles not powered. So you must pedal initially.
Dig.
I have seen a few around and they dont attract any attention. I think mine looked a little bit too much like a little chopper and less like a sensible bike with a motor. Keep it quite and the cops wont give a shit. Crouching over the bars with it screaming arse in the air down a hill will.
I have done over a 100 kph on a pushy. I would never ever do it again. You know speed wobbles? well I found the second lot of wobbles at about 100 getting towed by a tt500. Slowing down was one of the most shit scary things.
I want to use the gears etc off a ten speed to drive the motor through (probably a little whipper snipper engine next time) Little motor and lots of ratios.
I just had alook back at the other comments.
I power assisted bicycle is just that! a bicycle with a (power resticted by law in killowatts or cc's) power source to assist pedalling!
A motorbike.
A motorcycle is a motorcycle.

I remember these. Back in the late 60's a mate and I "converted" a Malvern Star Dragstar mounting a Victa 125cc lawnmower engine into it. Later on we acquired a McCulloch chain saw motor - goddam that thing went. I'm sure I've still got the gravel rash scars![]()

Bumped because I found a forum that deals with these!
Probably a repost
