Hi guys,
I finally bought myself a sportsbike. Always had the desire to buy a sportsbike and streetfighter it, and on new years eve, I decided to put this plan into action. Bought myself a ZXR 750 from a bloke who had started the process of streetfightering it, but had given up. Luckily, the bike was still licenced and registered till May 2011.
Here's a write up of the things that I've done on the bike so far. Being my first ever project, my knowledge is very limited in this area. So, please feel free to suggest anything that may be of help.
Anyway, this is what the bike looked like when I first picked it up.
I've made very few changes to it so far. I replaced the Motocross headlights with these-
Replaced the mirrors with bar end mirrors.
Put one of these things on instead of the stock overflow tank for the radiator liquid.
I decided to buy a Katana windscreen and place it on top of the headlights. Carbon-Rod helped me build a few brackets in order to mount the screen. Upon doing that, the bike looked like this-
The problem with this set up was that, the brackets that held the screen also held the speedo, tacho and the temperature gauge. Everytime I hit speeds of over 70-80kmph, the brackets used to get shakey and constantly hit the headlights. Then I decided to get rid of the screen and lower the headlights further down. This created a huge gap between the speedo, tacho.......assembly and the headlights, which kinda gave it a very awkward look. So, I decided to get rid of the tacho and the temperature guage, and just have the speedo at the front.
Instead of having a temperature gauge on, I decided to get a thermo cap for the radiator.
Searched three Supercheap auto stores and wasn't able to get one that would fit my radiator. These caps are manufactured by CPC Auto Components in Melbourne. Spoke to one of the blokes there, and he said that, it would be possible to get a cap made for my bike if I sent my radiator cap in. Haven't really looked into that one yet.
I've got a whole bunch of things planned for this bike, but with restricted space in my groundfloor unit, and busy work schedule, I'll be doing this bike up as and when time permits. Here's a pic that might give you an idea of space restrictions I'm facing.
