    My RD/RZ 350 YPVS -83 w. injection/turbo project

    Hi all.
I'm new to this forum so i thought i would share some pics of my "crazy" projekt with you.
    Opinions are appreciated...if positive ;-)
I have been driving bikes since i was 15 (I'm 49 now,,), used to "borrow" my bigbrothers Honda CB 750 Four,,he he.
    Later i bought my own, a Honda CB 750 K7,,my first bike,,,memories,,.
Well, well, i came across a cheap RD/RZ 350 -83 in the year 2003 and since then its only been 2-stroke,,he he,,it's like a big moped,,sounds the same anyway.
Heres a couple of pics :

At the same time i even had a Suzuki GSXR 1100 (1255cc) w. injection and Turbo,,worked nicely, app. 250 RWHP.

I'm gonna use the wheels, the front fork, front fender, backfender and the Aprilia RS 250 -98 banana-swingarm on "The Projekt". ;-)
Wheels are of a Suzuki GSXR 750 -91 and measure 3,5" x 17" and 5,5" x 17", handpolished by me,..Pew,,lot of work..,app. 200 hours work,,started out with no. 60 sandpaper, ended up with no. 1200 wet and then a lot of "Autosol".

The swingarm was relativly easy to polish, started w. 240 paper, ended w. 1200 and lots of "Autosol".
Can be used as a mirror now. ;-)

    Here some pics a "The Projekt"s engine,,semi-assembled :

It should al come together in a chassi of a Suzuki RGV 250 -94, probably with Honda NSR 125 -90 seat and tank plastic, fairing probably RGV 250,,w'ell see,,,
    Some pics of mock-up :

Close up of injectionhousings, came of a Triumph 955 (minus 1 ,,he he), inside diameter 43 mm, billet (made by,,guess who,,) boostbottle connectors w. 20 mm inside diameter and "slanted" reed spacer for more direct flow into intake.
My intention is to use MegaSquirt newest injectionbox, MicroSquirt, as it also has programmable ignition in it,,,yummi.

    [IMG]http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq134/frostie_photo/Closeuponinjectionandboostbottlecon.jpg[/IMG

Thats al for now,,but like the big guy says "I'll be back".
    Over and out.
    Frostie.

Love it. My old man had an RZ350 in black and red. I remember him scraping the pegs on the black spur with me hanging on for dear life. Memories.

    Thanks guys.
I'm hoping it should produce something like 150 RWHP.
It may sound a lot, but if i can get 70-75 RWHP with ordinary tuning, then 1,0 bar should give between +80 - +120 % , so it shouldn't be impossible.
2-stroke snowmobiles are using aftermarket turbokits nowadays,,so,,;-)

    Hi, and thanks.
Yeah, i know, and the worst part is that because it's a 2-stroke the turbocharger should not begin to make boost before the chambers begins to work proberly,,,so when the revs hits the powerband, then the turbo starts charging,,so it's probably gonna be a wild ride.
I'm figuring it's gonna make something in the neighborhood of 120 -140 Nm of torque from 8000 - 12000 rpm, and maybe around 50 - 60 about 7000 rpm.
So i'm gonna have to hold on to the handlebars when it hits the powerband. ;-)

Haven't seen a 2 stroke turbo bike before, will be interesting.

How do you plan on lubing the turbo? it will need an oil feed from somewhere, and i'm not sure 2 stroke oil will cut it. besides, it needs to have an oil drain as well.... electric oil pump to feed to/from the gearbox? Totally self contained oil system?

Are you going to do away with the idea of expansion chambers, or mount the turbo after them?

I'm intrigued how you stop the boost going straight out the exhaust ports, I know there are turbo snow mobiles, but having a hard time tracking down technical data as to how they work :/

    Hi there.
Not as strange as it may sound,,has been done a lot in the States on Yamaha Banshee 350 (Valvie,,without the powervalves,,).
Link to a fun place below:

    turbo-charged banshees

They even make billet casings for the Banshee with 1/2" thick casewalls, said to hold for OVER 150 RWHP!!!,,
Casing is same as RZ 350 YPVS, thought you might want to know,,,,
No, your'e right, i have to have an oilpump that can supply a steady oilpressure of at least 2,5 kg/cm2, about 35 psi and i will have to make a drive for it somewhere on the bike, i'm guessing it will be from the crank,,but dont know yet.,
The return will be gravity, and, yes, i will make a separat oilsystem with tank.
I was thinking about using the gearbox-oil and the gearbox as reservoir, but i think i'll go with the extra system, not sure yet.
Ohno, i will have to use the expansionchambers,,otherwise the boost will go right through the engine, they are a must so you can balance the pressure both in exhaust and in intake, so the boost stays in the cylinders.
My plan is to use OEM Aprilia RS 125 chambers because they have relatively thick walls so they can withstand the 1,0 bar (14,7 psi) pressure + the ordinaire pressure that i'm going to exposure them to.
Another reason for the Aprilia chambers is that they are built for rather hi rpm before they "start working" so to speak, and thats another thing about turbocharging a 2-stroke : The turbo must not deliver pressure BEFORE the expansionchamber starts working properly.
Unfortunately does that mean that everything starts working at the same time,,when the engine hits the powerband and the spannies starts working,,so does the turbo,,so well you understand,,he he.
Turbo is of a Volvo (I live in Sweden, so why not,,) 440 turbo, its a Garrett unit TBO 228 and its capable of delivering air to app. 170 hk and not too big either.

    Hi.
See answer above then you will understand.
It can even be done on 50 cc moped engine,,see pic below.
They claimed to have driven it at 228 km/h (141,7 MPH)!!!
And it's not impossible, if they are getting something in the neighborhood of 45-50 RWHP, and i think they could with a lot of boost.
The 125 cc RR-bikes claim to have 55 RWHP and they can do +150 MPH, so,,,

    Keep the pressure op.

    Ahh, now i understand,,
No, i just drilled the original small holes (disc is the 220 mm disc from a Suzuki GSXR 750 -91) somewhat bigger (12 mm,,ha ha), mostly for lighter unsprung weight, and i dont use the rearwheel brake that much anyway (well, i had to use it a couple of times with the 1255 inj./turbo but only for saving my self from getting the topyoke planted in my forehead), so it will hold together.
I might replace it with a 50 cc scooter disc,,they are small and thin, and weighs next to nothing,,ha ha.
