    My XS

Here is my little project. Bought for $325 off ebay (amazingly in ran with the addition of justa a battery and petrol) I also aquired another donar for $300 which surrendered its seat, clocks, shocks, front brake, pipes plus a few other bits and pieces. It took me and my dad 8 days to give it the spruce up so for a little over $1000 I have a tidy little motor. Next step is a cafe conversion.

No rechroming just autosol and a lot lof patience. That was the main reason for the donor bike as the pipes and headers were too rough to salvage. The donor had a holed piston but good chrome so it was worth having. I also needed small things like a seat lock which are hard to find for a bike that is not real popular. The money was spent on rattle cans, battery, back tyre and a few nuts and bolts. About $350 all up. To be honest it had sat under my house for about 18 months before my dad came over from the UK and we decided to get stuck in. It was mt first rebuild. I am sure it will not be my last.

I really want its bigger brother the 650 but being new to bike ownership and riding I thought it best to learn on something a little cheaper. The plans for this one now are shorten the seat using the old seat base, clip ons, single clock (tacho) with bicycle speedo, new headlight brackets, chopped front mud guard, chopped rear mud guard with relocated rear light, small blinkers, pod filters, home made rear sets, relocate battery (maybe). Will post some pics when I get a chance.

Here is the work in progress. The wing mirror will be replaced with a bar end one and I need to get the headlamp lower so I will invert the mounting brackets. I am happy with the look of the rear (lights/rego) and the seat although I may have to weld a bit to the sides. I want the line of the bottom of the tank to flow through and at the moment it goes up a bit. I am doing away with the clocks and will just have a bycicle speedo mounted on the clip-on. Can anyone tell me if that is legal? I am cropping the front guard and will re-mount the battery (maybe sideways) to give it that lighter look. There is an issue with the rear brake actuation and the rearsets that I am trying to make. A soluion will come to me though with a bit more head scratching. It won't be quick (80's four stroke 250 was never going to be fast) but whats the point in going fast when people cannot see how good you look right?

I found some short mufflers on ebay, $165 for the pair delivered. Look good and should sound even better. I have also inverted the headlight brackets to get the headlamp a bit lower.

Ikon have a special on their 7614 shocks. $490 delivered (down from $650). A bargain and they look great so I might invest in a pair. The special price in on until xmas.

    Awesome bike

But you're doing it wrong. Projects are meant to sit in your shed for 6months-Xyears + and be worked on slowly over beer??

    Good onya for not procrastinating
