Ok, haven't undone the chain yet.. but I'm working top down..

Unplugged the wiring from the cluster to the rest of the bike..

Removed the coils from above cylinders 1 and 4

Wiring's now out of the way.. easy access to the top of the motor...

Let's have a crack at these bolts, see what it looks like under there..

Let's have a look inside...

Looks mighty clean, for an old bike...

Some bling bits, my CF mirrors and head bearings..

Closeup...

Bit of a problem here, bars are solid...
I'm sure I'll figure something...

head bearings $30 + shipping.. courtesy of ebay, ordered from the UK - was landed within 5 days..

nice to see someone else using pyramid parts, I just bought 3 sets of pads for my FZR delivered within 5 days cheaper than Yamaha could provide me with 1 set, which i would have to wait for and then take the trip to midland to pick them up.

Ok, to get an engine out - I quickly realised that super crap tools were just that.. 'crap'

after breaking spanners, doing more damage to my knuckles than i cared for.. I decided i should splash on these....

This quickly ensued...

The engine is removed easily, by removing 2 bolts from the following locations ( as seen in the 2 pics below ) 1 on the top, 1 on the bottom..

As you can see, the motor requires support to lift and hold in the frame - to remove the 2 retaining bolts.

I used my hydraulic car jack for this.. which made the bike unstable on the rear stand.. but i kept an eye on it..
( working unassisted )

there's alot of space there now...

I had to remove the front sprocket cover, to remove the retaining nut from the frame.. having never done this one the kawasaki, i can safely say that I'll never allow it to look like this ( filthy ) once it's back together again...

pretty disgusting in there, been 20 years since it was detailed from the looks of it...

and miscellaneous wiring...

from this pic here, it's pretty clear - but the white container on the left is the fuel filter... and the metallic cylinder on the left of it is the fuel pump...

chain is off.. wheels still on.. but only just...

top down, motor out...

there's still plumbing in there that's gotta be removed - but at this stage it was about 2c in the shed.. and i was freezing.. so lets put it to bed for the night..

Eukanuba I’m loving this write up.

I was very close to grabbing this bike but couldn’t spare the cash at the time. At first was disapointed you got it rather than me, but now glad because u are doing it justice I wouldn’t have been able to provide.

Awesome job! Watching with a lot of interest

I didnt realise until i just went out to the shed - but the idle screw is broken off.. must have been hooked up - and it's broken now ( the idle adjustment knob on the r/h side of the frame )

looks like that's one more thing i have to fix...

hey aaron, happy birthday too bro !

this is what a wiring loom looks like - removed from a H1 zxr 750...

and i've removed the front 2 bolts that hold the top of the rear section on..

cluster is completely removed, electrically and physically...

basically, it's just 2 bolts up front.. holding it in...

when you release the front, the entire rear section drops about 6"...

gotta get the rear section off.. here's the 2 bolts either side holding the tray in..

2 phillips screws holding in the top...

the trays off... that looks easy to get at...

making progress...

2 bolts holding that section on..

here's the pivot bolts that hold the bottom of the rear section to the main frame on the bike..

rear section comes away nicely...

looks a bit like a trials bike now...
