another angle...
gotta get those 2 bolts out - to remove the battery tray.. and remove the reservoir for the rear brake..
and, it's off...
diiiiiiirty...
let's get that " so cool " hugger off the back wheel...
2 phillips screws holding it in, either side...
checkout that munted brake line.. that's sooo gonna get changed with braided lines...
from the other side..
fo shizzle !

So, when the motor's out of the bike - who's the best person to take it to for 'work' ?
And by work - I dont know what's been done to it.. so i guess to pull it all down and do the what not's for an engine that's just supposedly passed the magic 100,k figure ?
( That being said, it's not short on power - and after lifting the top.. the chain looks pretty smart.. clean and tight with almost nil wear on the sprockets.. )

if the motor is strong i wouldn't worry, i didn't notice any smoke when you had it out a couple months back. just get the carbs rebuilt.

My 2c, but why dont you get a good manual, and do it yourself. There is plenty of sound advice on here, and some people are good with valves, some with carbies, gear boxes etc etc. You may decide that you want to port/polish your heads and take them to someone that specialises in that. Bit by bit, piece by piece, you will really get to know the bike. You have come this far. Dont hand the reins to someone else. By all means, get some help, but not the whole thing. There is something about making yourself comfortable with a beer and working on some obscure part of the engine and knowing that that little bit - the bit that no one will ever see - is perfect in every way.
My 2c. Keep going. Clear some space. Clean off a bench, put the engine on it, label your bits and pieces (the little ones) in icecream containers, get a parts wash tub, some degreaser, some brushes, scourers, a manual, beer, and chow down into the heart of the beast.

I can see the point of pulling the motor down myself and working on it piece by piece.. but that being said, I'm by no means a mechanic.. and wont ever pretend to be..
there's something special about a person that does this for a living, being that they're impartial and have some sort of training - where as i am neither
I'd consider the engine to be the most important part, right up there with the brakes.. no go, and no stop = bad.. or, if you do something wrong.. it could stop at 110+ and that's gonna be worse than bad..
Unless someone's prepared to sit on my shoulder ( now that the shed is clean and clear again after removing all the 80's plastic bling.. )
My primary concern is the plans for bodywork and fabrication.. this things gonna be an absolute killer when i've gone from paper to fabrication.. I've got some seriously headturning ideas ( and no billywhizz, no esky with beer taps.. )

 watching this space!
Bloody hell hope you dont get it all back together to find a bucket of bolts left over...
i thought you were fixing the bike up not rebuilding it from the ground up! NICE!

You should get a Sharp rear stand with castors on it, makes life MUCH easier for stuffing around in the garage, moving the bike around etc.

Agreed, neil did the last service on my blade....
I've never been happier than after neil gave his magic touch, he went over every single nut, bolt and globe on my bike..
I'll definitely be taking the cbr back to him for the next service, and to get my showa rebuilt ( he picked up a problem i'd been having with it, that every other shop said 'it's fine' )
he was imo, very well priced for the quality of work he did too.. shame i'm so far away from kewdale...

I'm pretty sure museums aren't going to be losing any sleep over someone modifying a kawasaki zx7 with over 100,000 kays on it. He also mentioned he was going to 'street fighter' it, and chop the tail.
Use your brain before you post.

I did offer her to you, but you were undecided..
( besides, you're still working on the cafe racer.. and you got enough bikes at your place )
she's going to live the rest of her days as my prized ride/show bike..
What a transformation, from trasher to treasure.. lovingly cleaned.. polished and shined.. every single nut and bolt.. it might take me forever, but once i started, i just couldnt stop..
Now, if only someone was prepared to do this to me - when i'm well past my 'used by' date
I know the entire history of this bike, and the last 2 previous owners.. and i can trace it back to new.. sounds like a pretty interesting show piece to me..
besides, it's not like i'm doing a monster garage on it.. and putting different bits off different types of bikes in there.. just doing body work, and a bit of a mechanical resto.. ( and upgrading that horrible monoshock, and suspension.. )
Everyone i've spoken to has been encouraging me on this, big props to billywhizz and joker for lending me an ear when i'm considering going the gas axe to overcome my frustrations.. especially to the boys over at ASF, they've been huge help with ideas.. suggestions and comments for panel work etc.. i hope to finish the bike within a reasonable time span, and to a reasonable budget.. ( so far, so good )
So, where would one pickup said ZX9 engine with low k's ? ( now that the 750 is out.. this could be a good project to match the new tail that's going on.. and the plans i have for an undertail exhaust... )
