Well this project has been ongoing since I bought the bike in 07. The most notable changes to the bike have been to address the cooling issues with the R model and subsequent models.
First up were the aluminium Muzzy fans, which replaced the OEM plastic fans, the lower one actually melted and began to catch on the radiator.
Next up was the modified ZX6 impeller, who's fins are larger than those found on the MV impeller. After these two mods, I noticed very little change in the bikes overall ability to reduce its high temps.
So then came the first of the performance mods, the Motocorse slashtip pipes.
Although these are much lighter than the OEM pipes and produce a nice note, there were very little noticeable gains as far as power goes.
The Rizoma LED indicators were a nice little mod, but started to create problems, so I took them off and will add them on again once I source a regulator. This will apparently help with the change to LED's
The carbon hugger and chain guard were also a mod added at around the same time as the LED indicators.
A carbon keyguard was added with the hugger and chain guard, while carbon heel guards replaced the metal OEM type.
Iridium spark plugs are now standard in the bike and now that she's coming up on 27000kms, new chain and sprockets are in order.
The cooling issue had reached a peak when I took the bike into Bikers Corner in Northam and Shane told me he had to replace most of the engines seals due to the damage caused from the heat created over the last few years. This was when I realised I have to find another way to get the exhaust gases out quicker, ceramic coating the exhaust system and decatting were the only options left. Shane added engine ice to the cooling system which helped keep temps down by a couple of degrees.
As if I needed any more cooling issues, the radiator started to leak, which apparently is a fault and cannot be fixed ... 3 months later I bought a second hand rad from an F41000S, which was pressure tested and it bolted straight on.
The final major mod to the bike was completed recently, but the work carried out to the exhaust was done a few months ago. Paul and his bro Alan from CIC coatings did a great job on the ceramic coating, which came out chrome instead of, what I thought would be black.
The chrome look far exceeds what I had hoped for and finally with the help of a catless midpipe, the cooling issue had been resolved. A USB PC111 has smoothed out the 5k surge and I am now a happy MV owner.
