Project RGV
So I sold my CBR and decided to get something a little quicker so I bought a 1995 Suzuki RGV (VJ22). I picked up the bike for $3000, unregistered and ex-track bike and it came with heaps of spares: extra set of tyres (Michelin PP's), all road going parts, standard gearing sprockets, race fairings (which were on the bike) and a one piece leather suit which fit me perfectly. The biggest selling point were the receipts for a complete engine rebuild not too long ago.
The spares (minus leathers and parts).
The bike.
Now, the bike needed a bit of work to get it to a road standard. I fitted all the road fairings, indicators, lights, mirrors, few adjustments here and there and had to fabricate my own rear plate holder as the last owner had cut it off for the track:
This was made out of a biscuit oven tray (thanks Dad!). Fairly thin aluminium but I managed to get some decent support out of it:
I fitted a reflector at the base as bikes normally come with one from factory and I thought it would be required for the pits.
I've never brought a vehicle over the pits before, but have done pretty much all I could think of to get it ready. I've given it a good cleanup, degreased the engine and tried to get it running how I want, tidied up heaps of other stuff too. Will be heading into East Perth on Tuesday morning, hopefully get it registered for the road as I'm itching to ride the thing!
I've already ordered the full set of Tyga GP fairings but will need other little bits and pieces which I'll gather along the way (mirrors, indicators, etc).
This project build may be a little slow but I'll document whatever I do to the bike. Stay tuned..

I think your rear mudguard (below the rego plate) needs to be longer. If you draw a line from the centre of the rear axle at forty five degrees (say at the 10 o'clock position) upwards then your mudguard needs to extend this far down. Looks a little short to me, just look at the recent posts on illegal fender eliminators for this exact problem.
Proabably save you an extra trip.
Nice bike by the way, one I would like to add to my collection.

Really? I assumed that because it has a rear hugger, this was effectively the mud guard?

I'll definitely be up for that, I don't know anywhere near enough about these engines.

East perth aren't too bad dude, they didn't bother me about lack of ridiculous huge mudguard thing off the license plate.

Lee, do they test ride the bike or anything? I've just finished off what I think needs to be done on the bike. There's no leaks or anything and gave the chain a good clean and lube. A minor problem though is that because of the sprocket change by the previous owner, the chain seems to rub excessively on the chain guide. I hope they don't pick on that.. Wish me luck for tomorrow morning!

Yes they test ride the bike. Around the block usually, it's over in 5 minutes. Is the chain rubbing on the guard making it sheer plastic or make noises? If theres no way to tell other than closely inspect it, you should be fine.
Can you not put a few washers underneath some bolts to space it or something? Try and do everything humanly possible to have it schmick

The rubbing isn't noticeable when you're wearing a helmet, so I might leave it for now (it's too late to do anything now). I just took the bike for a ride around the suburb and seems ok although the bottom end response sux at the moment. I haven't had the time to play around with tuning it yet but will do as soon as I can.

Well I went in this morning and came out 15 minutes later. The guy pretty much just looked over the bike, checked lights, etc. then got me to start it up and he took it for a quick spin around the block (at high rpm too), came back with a smile on his face and said 'no problem's mate'.
I picked up some service items (fluids, plugs) on the way home. Might aswell make the most of my sickie, lol.

Those blokes at the pits must enjoy riding all the bikes that come through there.

Dammit, I'm too scared to try and adjust these powervalves. They don't seem to line up when I short the grey wire to the -ve battery.

Also, where abouts is the oil pump lever adjustment? I took the magneto cover off but couldn't find it anywhere?
