    R1 streetfighter-ish

Had a few fighters before, well i say fighter, but really their just ripped off plastics and mx bars plus other bits and pieces. Any how, i always wanted a R1 fighter but they've all been too nice to sod about with, and this ones the same really, but after my clutch started too ' not bloody well work ' i decided too try a little bit at a time, kind of thing. Now lets see how this pan's out, first of all this is the healthy baby

Ok next its time to remove the body, measure up the risers and bars, reroute the cables ( if possible or replace ), change brake lines etc.

Had to mill the under side of the yokes to get the risers to sit where i wanted them, throttle cables worked fine once i'd removed tank, airbox and routed differently. clutch worked fine once moved ( very surpised ) and isn't tight or catchin anywhere. The electrics on the other hand were HELL, i had to move them too behind the frame spar, between thottle bodies and frame ( about 20mm gap for 5x looms of 10 plus wires, plus plugs ). mount the brake res, put the fuses and assorted electrics into the now modded airbox and so on. So much work is the small things and it still just looks like ' the fairings been ripped off ', !!!!!!

Right we're gettin some where now, not sure where, but some where. Lights, hmmm i want a fairly flat front, not too ' speed triple ', and many nights have been spend just staring at her and trying to imagine what would work. During a drunken night at the good fellow ' Ausinana's ' home, we decided too try a spare pair of lights from his Trumiph 675 race bike, so sore headed ( thanks buddy, still not right i'm sure ), i headed home too try. What do you reckon, i loved em but not right for what i'm after, mean as hell, sort of look like small R1 ones but stick out a bit too much, so back to the drawing board, bugga. Gone but not forgotten !

Funny enough i thought about them, but anyone who's followed me though traffic knows i don't have the space too lose !!, its my everyday transport and so will not be shiny shiny, just clean. The indicators are in the head light unit i've ordered online ( if it ever gets here, i'll photo and post ). I've modded the exhausts now and now the rear indies need sortin too match. Removed hugger and chain guard to give cleaner lines, sand blasted and painted rear-sets black, made a bracket for a mini mirror and hopefully torromow i'll cut up some carbon tube for the intakes....

In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Hi all, headlight unit arrived yipee, just come in from workshop after hours of bracket making, drillin, bendin, loom running, but my god i'm happy...it looks perfect, pics hopefully tomorrow ( need daylight ). Mirror is looking nice and low too bars, and carbon tubes need re-cutting to suit frame angle. Number of people have asked why the hell i'd do this to one of the best looking jap bikes....hard to answer, I always loved fighters, it comes with all the trick bits ( radial calipers/ master cylinder, upside downers, under seat pipes, 160bhp and so on ), hate to see the same bike as mine, sick and tired of neck pain unless i'm kicking double speed limit etc and can't leave anything alone, lol !!!!
Anyway feel free too leave ideas, comments good or bad. Cheers Tony

well each to their own, Tony....not my cup of tea, but then it's not my bike either :-) so if you are happy with the results then it's all well worth the effort.
the main thing (from my point of view, anyway) is that you've obviously taken the time to think it through and done a bloody good, clean job of it, instead of just butchering an R1 (which any idiot can do!)

Well not sure about that, but thanks for all the feedback, wiring still needing a cover below clocks and detailing. blew a fuse while sodding about and now wish the fuse box was easier to get to, may have to rethink its airbox location ! Talking of clocks, i'm really pleased with the fit, look made too measure. Rear indies are doing my head in, cannot find what i want, but i'll keep lookin. Anyway here it is with unit fitted, you like ????
