Rogwicks modified MPS6 (the other ride)

This is my other ride and project MPS6. Anyone interested read below or view pics. I purchased the MPS sometime in September 2009 and was bone stock. Since then, done a few things here and there, pretty much keeping me busy and enjoying working on it. Also to own something a little different. I've now got a CBR600RR planning to do a bit of work on that to, but just thought I'd show case the MPS for those interested.

She's fairly quick, although got nothing on bigger bikes. Not too sure on the 0-100 figures but a mate of mine with a few bolt on mods achieved a 4.82 to the 100kmph on a full launch. Not saying mine can do that as I haven't tried/tested and logged data.

Just installed a SSP last night which reduces the gear stick throw by around 35%. Also got some parts for the bike (oggy knobs) which I might have a crack at installing sometime. A few other shots I had handy of the MPS

Thanks mate. Might be the angle I'll see if I can get a better pic (see below) The MPS is 15psi standard, I'm running around 16psi but on a stock cooler. Just with intake and exhaust mods really. The reading on the gauge is peak boost which hits somewhere around 20-21 but I've seen peak boost of near 22psi. I'm holding 16psi fairly well through the gears.

Shots of the back end..I'll see if I've loaded any. Although I've been a bit lazy. Been meaning to do some work on the badges and paint them black or dark metallic blue. They're still the chrome standard badges at the moment.

Only got these half decent ones sorry. I should get some more rear shots next time I'm out

my understanding was that they ran quite a bit of boost from the factory.

I think it was somewhere around $2,500 exhaust system. Basically a turbo back, replacing the stock system. The stock downpipe (turbo, into downpipe, into catalytic converter out...) is a large restrictive member in the MPS. The exhaust gas flow is poor, the physical design is large and considers emissions/sound and the likes. Removal of this offers a increased exhaust gas flow and at less resistance due to the larger diameter of the downpipe unit itself 3" mandrel.

In terms of "power" most of the gains you will be able to achieve are left at the downpipe. Although a smoother and larger diameter makes for less resistance and of course replacing the mufflers offers a nice note when on song and also at idle. You will notice on the 6, the cat-back single pipe-run splits further down to enable entry to the twin mufflers. A high flow, less resistance "Y" piece pipe-run (see photo's below) offers only minimal gains but a smoother higher flowing system.

Mufflers are two stainless steel super-cat mufflers. They're oval by design and sit high up, thus offering next to no chance of hitting. The pipework neck from the muffler exits the chrome exhaust tips sitting not to far out but rather inside about ~10mm

DP Flange to cat-back, can see one resonator and the other in the corner of the shot

Correct although slightly limited in 1, 2 and I think 3rd too from factory (mine isn't)
The 3MPS runs around 12-14psi in the lower gears and only achieves full boost in 4th I think.
Published figures state the MPS runs 15psi stock (they don't mention limiting etc)

i like that the zorst doesn't look too boy racer. all the berries without the look at me pipes at the back!

that must really have opened it up a bit over the stock one. crazy what sort of performance you get on turbos with just the one mod

Yeah from the back it looks pretty much standard. Just a slight increase of the pipe exist dia. Looking under it looks pretty neat too. If I haven't floored it for a while, when I get the MPS on song and it peaks at high boost I get a dual puff of black smoke that has collected in the pipework and cat. Looks interesting from the rear view mirror and also from the back. Arguably the best bolt on mod available for the MPS is the downpipe. Boost comes on around 500RPM earlier, more aggressive through the rev range and you can rev higher than the stock 5,500RPM when power disappears (stock) Now I can hold power to about 6,000RPM but peak power is still around 5,500RPM I believe. Performance....well I haven't done that much really. Running the stock turbo and stock cooler. But with the mods and tune we (mate and I) put estimates around 197.3kW at the wheels (about 240kW at the engine) not confirmed as we took results based off log data on a dashhawk...to be honest we could be completely wrong but it sounds about right. I'm a little concerned to upgrade the turbo and the cooler as they run near 400Nm torque from factory, so not sure what torque I'm currently achieving. A mate of mine over east is running a 12.316 on the quarter on the 3MPS, but he done a fair bit to his.

Below is the data from cp-e with regards to the Downpipe and intake (gains in HP)

Cheers mate, Quite fun to drive and interesting. The AWD system sends power to the rears on acceleration so ideally you can get oversteer, understeer or grip depending on your approach into a corner or how you choose to drive. Flick the hand-brake up a click (the MPS3 switch as I call it) and it disconnects the drive to the rear via a coupling essentially making it FWD. In "MPS3 mode" and in the wet you can light up 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, or alternatively in the wet you can get AWD spin on a hot launch. A mates MPS6 with a few bolt on mods achieved a 0-100 in 4.82 seconds, which makes it a bit of a sleeper compared to known hot 4cylinders such as WRX and EVO's.

One of the last cruises I went on with a few mates I was keeping pace with a Ferrari 360 Spyder (pushing it to the limit) at one point I lost my brakes from over heating having to use the box and violently down shift as I was hot on the tail. Behind I had a Mercedes C63 AMG (about 336kW 6.2L V8) having a hard time keeping up around corners and on the straights the MPS was explosive out of corners it was never an issue holding him up. At around 4,800RPM in high gears there's 16psi on tap so the pick-up out of corners is impressive. Reached the destination said C63 driver asked what turbo and cooler I'm running I replied with "standard" Considering the price difference, excellent bang for buck
