    Sr500 Cafe Racer

Just when you think your finished there is always the detail that needs completing. This SR was finally licenced with engineering approval a few weeks ago. The best thing about it is it makes my Trumpy feel like a limo after riding this cafe for some distance. 1978 SR500 import from yank land. Stripped it to the bare bones and started from there. Engine has had some head work and a 38mm smooth bore gets the fuel into the mill. 95db S/S muffler and header chucks the waste out the backend, legal as this model is allowed 100db, carry certificates for curious constables. Seat from Motollana, tank and clip ons etc from Vanem, good guys to deal with.I posted a few shots of the build before it was licenced, but finished it off finally. Shaking it down and tightening the bolts now, good fun to ride, tracks the bends like it's on rails. Pity there are no clubs around for idiots like me.

    Cafe run

Unfortunately cannot make it this weekend, but will make every effort to come along to the next one. Because the bike was an american import I had to have everything engineer approved to ADR standards. I went through a bloke called Adam McConick at Rocket Engineering in Freo. Top bloke, mainly into cars but he is a DOT approved engineer and one of the few that is certified to do bikes. The exhaust I got was from Mottolana and rated at 95db. They measure it when your engine is revving at approx 100kph and from 2.5 mt behind the bike. I am pretty sure if you slapped one of these pipes on you will not need approval as pre 85 are allowed 100db, but always worth have certificates anyway. If you get a sticker I would just take the regs along with you when they inspect your bike to get the sticker off. I carry them to avoid the carry on.

Haha Im a 'car builder' really, hence why I bought a modified thruxton (didnt have to do alot to it), If I was building something would have definately gone bonny, great 2nd hand prices around and the motors black to start with.. After all the head fuck with my latest car Im definately looking to do a smallish jap cafe bike as a project next though.

How about a few more pics of the SR?

Hope you find the bits you need but if you ever want to sell the motor, give me a yell. I have built a few and regretted selling them. Nothing like a single on song.

Always up for a ride. We had a club in Mandurah many years ago called Mandurah Streetbikes funny enough, well before this took off. Good family club that was always up for rides, I ended up being one of the last survivors in the end and still have the rights to the club etc. But we all headed in different directions after about 20 odd years. A few of us have been trying to get it going again as there are no real organised rides here anymore. I am going to organise a run through the hills shortly and will post it in the loop. Probably go from Mandurah, down towards lake CLifton through Estuary road, cut to Waroona, up nanga road for lunch in Dwelly and then Nth Dandy where if any people from perth can split if they like and then back to mandurah, and if all the people click beer and bangers back at my place afterwards to finish it off. On the bike part thing, there is a guy in Lake CLifton who I sold some parts to years ago, he said he had about 20 xts, tts and sr's in the shed, but lost contact with him. THere is another bloke that I can possibly contact that does builds of older bikes and he may know of some around also.
If your keen on the ride let me know. 0457 268 266
