Oh cheers! Good idea. I'll give it a stab.

I have a Cadex ALR1 frame I will be getting rid of soon, once I strip the suntour superbe components off it, as they are worth big dollars.
I also have a set of Mavic 700c's with campag record hubs for that special retro build that I may be persuaded to sell.
Oh if anyone needs a hand I have a comprehensive bike toolkit, to remove cranks and freewheels ect.

There are two questions in life.
1:Which way do I go
2:Whats the lap record.

Finally saw my Dad over the weekend, here's the frame I'm starting with, his old peugot. It's possible a little bit older than me as he bought it in his twenties.

Frame looks immaculate....
Frame looks small, hope its your size mate! Agreed frame looks in good nic, some cool retro parts.
Fixie/SS convert or you going to restore?

Frame is small, my old man isn't very tall. I'm average height but enjoy the lower ride on a racer. It'll be fixed.
I'm tempted to buy the bargain basement fixie from Balmoral cycles if anyone has seen it.
About $500..
Unless of course I can get a nice-ishframe and front wheelpractically complete bike, in which case I could probably ebay a crank and rear for cheap....
For simple cheap bikes they get exxy...
Mekon, sweet. Look forward to the conversion.

For Sale Vintage Fixed Gear/ SingleSpeed Bicycle - Perth Street Bikes
price is negotiable
jase
Is tempting.....
Don't have the cash at the moment...
No worries mate.
Guess i should post up some pics for those who missed it in the forsale thread.
Picked up a 1950's Swansea 5 Swan track/race frame. These badboys were built in Freo in the 1930s-1950s. My one built roughly in the early 50s. High quality, lightweight steel, beaufiful lugwork.
I stripped it back to bare metal, and had a crack at the paint job which is far from perfect
I had originally planned to restore it, but curiosity got the better of me and threw on some parts i had lying around for sh1ts and giggles. Was surpised how smooth it rode.
Ive decidied to sell it, as with a newborn in the house, funds and time will be short, so wont be able to restore it as i had originally planned.
PM if your interested, ive got it listed for $600, but price is negotiable for this very rare, high quality and light weight track/race frame, Campagnolo wheelset, Bell australian made leather saddle, and some vintage cranks and drops.
Ill also consider seperating wheels or the frame
cheers jase

Dumb question: Wouldn't a fixed gear bike be really annoying and impractical?
I'd assume that since you have only one ratio, you make it a tallish one so you aren't pedalling at a crazy speed once you're moving. But then the take-off would be an absolute bitch right?
What's the point?
I'd hate to say it, but it kinda just seems like some "hardman" type of wank from where I'm sitting... *shrug*
have you seen the price of a decent sprocket cassette lately?
How many gears do you use on your average bike? I know on my mountain bike, I have 'start' and then 'top gear' and nothing else ever gets used really...
less maintenance, alternating cadences, super-cool indie status amongst your pushbike peers... what is there NOT to like?
I make decent use of the gears when i ride (not that often mind you).
So a fixie would essentially only have top gear yeah?
yeah, pretty close to top gear anyway....
BUT THINK HOW COOL YOU WILL LOOK!!!!!!!!!!!
