This looks like it will be a great write up.

awesome build,
there was a thread on here about an awd turbo r6,
may be good inspiration.
another differant build id like to see is a supercharged big bore single road/trail.

Wow, thats a little different. Though he is using almost exactly the same turbo as me, and mounting it the same way - bastard!
Thanks for the comments, it'll probably be a few days before much else happens now. I'm hoping to use the mills at work this weekend to machine the new head gasket up.
Jim, I will probably end up machining 2 head gaskets at once - it would give me the option of installing one, then removing it, measuring the thickness it crushed to, and double checking. Though perhaps I can use a dial indicator on top of the head as I'm torquing it to do the same thing...
I cant imagine it crushing too much though, and frankly even it it did crush as much as 0.1mm, it wouldn't make a lot of difference really.
We'll see how she goes.

Good luck with the project mate, hopefully it all works out for ya. Can't wait to see the end result!
A t04 is waaaaay too big for this application. It won't spool. I'd look at flogging it on and going for a GT25 roller bearing turbo. For a bit of research have a google on turbos on Japanese Kei class cars. They are petrol motors usually about 660cc and will give you a good idea of what is going to work on the road. I can tell you right now the t04 won't start boosting until high rpm where it will do a big power spike, you'll wheelie 1 metre then have to change gear.
What engine management system are you looking at using?
The briefest look around on the internet will show you any number of turbo 600's that are running td04's, or very similar. It may be designed for a 2l car engine, but it's designed for a 2l engine that revs to 6000 rpm.
My 600cc revs to 15,500 rpm. It is displacing a LOT more air than a 660cc car engine.
I am confident this engine will spool the turbo just fine, and also remember the gearing on this bike is designed to keep it revving high - if it doesn't spool untill 7-8000rpm, that is not a problem.
In the ideal world, yes, I would use a slightly smaller turbo to get it spooled up at a slightly lower rpm, but as I said I am quite confident the R6 will spool it up just fine.
Even if it doesn't, all I have to do is swap the turbo to a smaller unit, and considering I picked this one up for an absolute steal ($103 au), I cant really loose.
Sorry if that comes across as a bit curt, but this has been done to death already. I have researched it, and yes, this is a compromise, but it is still going to work - I intend to prove it![]()

.. just remember copper anneals when worked (crushed) so if you're reusing the head gasket heat it up first (the old Triumph/BSA/Norton knowledge gets a reprisal).
.. and thats Racer # 193 to y'all; my fabulous sponsors (who all do good shit) are: Graeme Fleming IT Consultants, Vision Image, Pacific Safety Wear, Excess Power Equipment, Pro Photo Booth, Canning Vale Travel, Bankruptcy Advice Centre, Gryphon Garage Doors
.. and according to Sean'o: 'get the Kwaka (never thought i would say that!)'
Make up your own smog block off plates while your at it. Piss off that little unit. I just tapped the existing plates and plugged it with the thread of a bolt and some loctite. Could weld them up too.

Also, do you have a system that injects air into the exhaust like the '03 R1?
If so, fuck that off too.
aka smog block off plates
No, those are not smog block off plates.
Smog block off plates are the aftermarket part you put on there once you have removed the exhaust cold air injection system.
On this pic you can see them running up to the exhaust ports, they inject air to reduce the amount of unburnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust gasses.
I didn't realise they injected it in from the top of the head on the R6.
Hello Ryder I have build a 2004 r6. here a dyno pull of it..if you have any question. jsut ask me..This bike has two AMA Holder Records one at 172 & 173 in the 650cc class
