Workshop dealing with classic japanese bike in Perth?

    Hi there all
I have a 1968 Honda CB250 that I am 75% through restoring. I am keeping it stock for rego (yea I bought it so I had the best of both worlds a classic bike and a 250 for my first year of license) but going to modify it soon as possible after. I will be fitting amongst other things ram tubes and 2 into 1 exhaust among other things.. I'm wondering if there's any shops in perth that deal with these sort of bikes on a regular basis. I would be requiring a place with a dyno who can tune it. I'm also not sure if I would need to buy an assortment of carby jets beforehand or would they already be likely to have the ones I need? I am sick of going to bike dealers and getting screwed up faces and funny looks because I ask for parts on a bike older than 1995. I'm aiming for something along the lines of this :

    any help really appreciated!

    Tom

Dirt works In O'conner and witch cycles in Rockinham are about the only places left that will still dyno carbed bikes. Never used either so I can't comment, as its a relatively common bike there is probably someone out there who has already done these things and can give you a fairly good idea of what jetting is required. The other thing to do is do it yourself with either reading plugs or get yourself and wide band O2 sensor.

After that its pretty much the independent mechanics GD motorcycle engineering, K-tech etc.

For a start; You do NOT need a dyno to tune a bike (like that)
There were no dyno's around when these bikes were sold.
Secondly, It seems like a straightforward conversion.
Take side panels and tank off and original pegs and steering bar.
Replace with cliponns, bolt up rear sets, race tank/seat and paint /pollish it.
Looks like a wonderfull easy do it your self conversion and tuning these bikes is very simple if carbs/engine/electrics are in good order.
You learn how to do it, if you cannot already, and build will cost a fraction of what a bike builder would have to charge.
    Have a go!

hey mate nice choice of a first bike... my dad an i have a shed full of mostly cb350s with some 250 parts so if you need any parts let me know.

as for jetting will you be keeping the stock carbs?

if you want any advice regarding jetting your bike i would suggest going to the up coming classic motorcycle racing and talk to some of the blokes racing cb250s.

another place with alot of information on the cb250 is caferacer.net just a warning though is the guys on there can be pretty hard on the noobs, so do abit of searching before you ask questions... im on there as unit.

    good luck with it
i ride em like their stolen (once their warmed up of course)

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies & advice.
I am mechanically knowledgeable enough to be doing all of the mods to the bike to get it looking to my taste.
I'm just not that savvy on tuning for motorbikes and don't have things like spare jets etc. (yet)

this is a a photo of the tank I have decided to use at least , not sure about the rest of the bits of the bike - only thats a slightly different frame and my tank wont have the extra capacity 'sump' at the bottom. and i've got a suzuki gt750 4LS drum waiting to go on and I'm told CB500T forks are a good upgrade - but i'll see what comes along.

anyway I must say it's inspiring some of the advice / help / shit you guys give each other on your assorted projects. I've got to get A bike running and maybe meet some of you people. and yea I'd love one of those TSS RS500s , I'm just waiting for the right numbers.. when they finally get them done that is.

    hey again people
serious one for you here.. does anyone know if there are any custom metalwork fabricators in perth that deal with motorcycles? the main thing i need done is on a tank , ie clipon indents either side , a monza cap installed on top , some minor asthetic mods and modified tunnel mounts so it will install onto my bike in the manner of the stock tank. It is a steel tank. Thanks to anyone that can provide some useful leads! Tom.
