    Zx10 fighter

Good afternoon all! Just thought id pop in and say g'day and also show you the 06 ZX10 i picked up at auction this week.
This is going to be my new streetfighter project!

I have gotten tired of riding around on my ex-stunter F4i and have wanted a streetfighter for ages...but i dont have the money to buy a Duke and i dont want to spend 15K+ on a factory 'fighter that is basically a de-tuned CBR1000. SO...i have to build my own!

I have a few things in mind for this bike: minimalistic fairings, single-sided swingarm, short pointy ass and a nice face What more can a guy ask for? Im stoked that it came with a PCIII and an Ohlins damper. Bonus!

There are a few things that i'll need to fix up before taking her over the pits but the biggest things are the dent in the tank and busted rearset. Luckily i dont need any of the stock fairings except for the tail section because im planning on having 2 rear ends for it: the 'fighter tail and also a stock tail so i can take my girlie for a ride

Here are a few pics of her current situation. Stay tuned for updates over the next few months!!

I took a stock std one of these in that mango colour for a test ride today. Very nice indeed. With the the steering damper off it was like steering on ball bearings. With it wound right on and backed out a little it was pretty good for me.
    Nice bike and colour.
    Good luck with the build.

Kaneg rearsets on my 06 ZX10, I can't fault them and they're adjustable.

I also have these cheap levers from ebay (just linked the clutch). They have a good range of adjustment and the quality is better than I expected for $30 each.

Is such a thing even possible?

I fitted cheap Chinese shorty levers on my zx9 and found that the hole in the clutch lever for the mounting bolt was too big. Perfect fit for the brake bolt but clutch side has a smaller diameter bolt.
This meant that the lever is a bit sloppy in the clutch housing.
How did you find yours on the zx10?
    cheers

You can buy custom made ones for LOTS of money...$11.5K is the most expensive one ive seen but there are ways to get a SSSA for relatively cheap (if you do your homework )

Cause skimping out on the swingarm is a good idea lol.

IMHO stick with standard as sssa has gotta be rather large to cope with the stress. Standards done nicely can really compliment a bike

They fit perfectly, no rattling. Perhaps it was just the ZX9 that they got wrong?

Oh Achtung...you've hit the nail on the head! That exact bike is the inspiration for my 'fighter project. I'musing the same swingarm too (it's off an MV Agusta F4)

I had the exact same project in mind for my next fighter, even had my eye on this bike.
How did you manage to find an MV swinger? i looked for some time and never found any or was always to late.

    Good luck with it all.

I had a good read thru that thread and was gutted when he decided to put on a bog-stock CBR1000 tail piece after all that machining and effort to make a unique bike :-/ beauty must be in the eye of the beholder. He's still got a really nice bike tho!

Just lucky I guess :-) I though about getting a custom swinger like Large did but that looked like ALOT of work so I stumbled across the build thread using an MV SSSA and thought I'd hit the lottery! It still involves a bit of stuffing around but that's what building a fighter is all about

Well i have been busy researching what I want this bike to look like by the time im finished and have a few ideas in mind...

    Headlights:
This is the kind of headlight mask that id love to get but its $490!!!!! Add an extra $80 for the mounting assembly. Im going to have to save every penny to afford that one!

    OR

This one is off the Yamaha MT-03. Its a practical light that will work well at night and looks good IMO but doesnt have that aggressive 'feel' that a fighter light should have...but its much cheaper ($155) and is more practical than the other light...its gonna be a hard decision!

Rearsets - these will be bought in the near future cos I need em to get over the pits. After much deliberation Ive decided to go with a Gilles set. The Driven D-Axis rearsets ran a VERY close second though!

One thing I will need soon is a stock battery tray. If anybody has one or knows where one is gathering dust, let me know!!! I need it to get the bike over the pits
    Cheers

oh and I was thinking about the Competition Werkes GP exhaust. I want something that is short enough not to obscure the back wheel when the SSSA is fitted but I dont want a slash-cut pipe either...ive seen how obnoxiously loud those things are haha

Things are coming together quicker than I expected! I've been busy sourcing stuff to get this over the pits. A big thanks goes out to robwas for letting me help myself to a whole bunch of stuff for a bargain price. Thanks mate!

I have the SSSA in my possession...fuk that thing weighs a tonne!
    swingarm.JPG

I'm waiting on this rim and a rear brake caliper off the MV F4 to rock up. Pretty happy with the style of this rim. I REALLY didnt want to get one of those 5-point star rims that just scream "I came from an MV".
    IMGP5473.JPG Email.JPG

I've pretty much got everything I need to get it over the pits except for:
    -new battery
-aftermarket airfilter (not exactly 'required' by the pits but i'd like to get one that isnt covered in shit)
-patch up a few small cracks in the fairing
    -new rearsets
    -fix tank

Then the 'fighter build TRULY starts

    Missed this before.
Looks sick, mate. Can't wait to see how she pans out.

Those things came standard with Ohlins steering dampers though, didn't they?
