    zzr250 91 Revamp

Been working on a 1991 zzr250 for the last few months to kill my spare time, thought i would put up some progress pictures.

I'm currently having some issues with the carbies, Ive pulled them apart many times so i know my way around them quite well, im stumped with an idle issue (when reving the engine it hangs at a high idle for a while) im guessing its running rich as it drops and stalls. The carbies are spotless and they are synced up perfect, the bike has had no issues with mixture over the last few months so its odd, Ive read in another thread to not use the default idle screw settings so ill try 3.5 turns tomorrow as i have a day off. If there is anyone that's had the same problem let me know.

    Completed:
    Repaired fairings
    Fairings Green to Black
    Frame silver to black
    new chain and sprockets
    filters n oil etc
    Raised tail
    Hardened suspension
    Carbies Revamped
    Revamped pipes to exhaust
    Coolant
    Swing arm silver to black
    Brake Pads

    Yet to happen:
    Custom airbox
Front rim painting black (same as back)
    Head painted
    Mirrors painted Black
    Chrome pegs
    New grips
    Another paint job (deep Gloss)
    chain guard
    Jets
    Decals
    Brake Fluid
    Remove center kick stand

    Following go in order:

Nice work, I like the black frame I always thought the silver frame looked out of place.
My zzr had the same high reving problem a few months back, the book says 2 turns
on the pilot jet (from memory) but Gav said try 3.5 turns which solved the problem.
I got hold of a flat head screwdriver bit that fits into those magnetic handles and with
a bit of squeezing get my hand under the carbs and turn the pilot jet while the bike was running.
Make sure you are turning the right way or you find yourself having to start all over again.

looks nice , kinda looks like mine but mine is dirty and the paint is coming off the frame and everything else lol, is that frame powder coated or just painted. looks very clean. i also removed my front mud gaurd , i was trying to do the fork seals and then i forgot to put it back on. i want to customize it before i put it back on as the stock one make the bike look as older.

    @ the Dr
Gav said try 3.5 turns which solved the problem
That's the thread, 3.5 seems to do if for a lot of people, its odd there is mention of 1.5 turns and 2.5 turns all over the net however neither worked for me. Ill give the screwdriver bit a shot tomorrow morning that's gonna save me a hell of a lot of time.

    @Jones
The frame just sprayed with hi-temp 500 deg + black flat. Ive used hi temp paint before and its very resistant to scratches when many coats are applied, unlike the previous paint job. Do you have any pictures of your zzr?

I was told by the mech's at two wheeled wreckers that the lower settings are factory settings as the carbs get older they need more turns something to do with carbon build up and wearing.

Good job mate, Personally I like the polished frame to give a bit of contrast with the wheels and exhaust, Works very well with the matt black on my bike

3.5 turns of the idle screws works like a charm to get it started, messing around with fine tuning now. Im looking at making some permanent finger screws for the top of the idle screws. the screwdriver piece works well to adjust, bit of a tight fit though.

    @xuaxace
Yeah the polished aluminum looks good, when i stripped the frame i seriously considered leaving it like that but the foot pieces and the swing arm didn't come up as good, wanted nearly complete two tone so i did flat black and gloss black. Are your exhaust pipes stripped and polished?

    @ Jones
Its hard to tell on your zzr in the little side pic, do you have black mufflers? Sometimes a clean is all that's wrong, my back wheel was originally black until i realized it was road crud, such a nice bright purple emerged haha

Just putting an update of the bike.
She is looking like i wanted, have increased the back height some more and moved number plate higher. Checklist is complete. apart from tank ( has some holes ) looking for another tank to restore.

Once tank is done will move onto next project bike. Thinking 1000
