Which 2 Stroke oil do you use ?

There's so many types of 2 stroke oil out there, what type do you use - and why ?

Is it the smell, the colour or brand loyalty ?

I've used motul fully synthetic and found it really good.. I've also used castrol castor and found that quite good ( for a bean oil )..

Motul E800 has a very good rep, smells good enough to drink too.

Use whatever is readily available at the local auto shop. I used Castrol in the RGV.

Don't mix them and if you premix, shake the tank first as it separates out.
But Castrol R if no powervalves are involved, fully synth if they are.
Don't the ASB boys know the answer?

    Hi M_Green,

Motul's 800 Range burns cleaner - better results with modern race/power valve configurations. Here's a succinct Motul product range sheet:

    Thanks Sprint
You have answered one question and presented another

I have used 800 in my KR1S as I have run premix, I haven't really ridden it just messing around getting it running and ready for licensing.
The data sheet says for premix only but I am getting the injection system going again.
I know, I know the data sheet says ........... but .............. does anyone, has anyone, can anyone let me know about runnin this through the injection system ?
I have 1L unopened, should I try to swap it for the 710 ? It was recommended but I'm not sure if they knew I was running/going to run the injection system.

Usually try's to avoid stupid questions
It's better to be thought stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt

Pure speed in sixth gear on a 5,000 foot straightaway is one thing, but pure speed in third gear on a gravel-strewn, downhill, ess turn is quite another.

    Thanks for that Sprint.

I've wanted to use the 800 rather than the 710 but i was unable to get the Road version from Joondalup Honda, Rick Gills, Any of the Causeway shops or Total Motorcycle in Vic Park.

They all had the Off road version though.

Anyone know where i can find the 800 road?

Bert, I think the oils for injection systems are usually a bit thinner. Whether the premix only you have is ok, not sure. For the cost, personally I wouldn't.

    Oh, Silkolene here.

I used to run Motul 710 in my RGV. Very little smoke once warmed up, nice smell too and minimal carbon buildup between tear downs.

I have used Motul 800 in all my motocross bikes since 1996. Very minimal piston wear, no carbon buildup on powervalves, piston crown or exhaust ports and a smell out the tailpipe to die for. The bikes have great throttle response when run at 40:1 and jetted to suit. Never had any motor meltdowns running this oil.

    My 2 c worth.
    Paul

Stuff the four strokes. I'm waiting for the two stroke renaissance.

Good thread, as stinkwheels can be borderline on the lube issue - esp with so many variables: powervalves or not, pre-mix or not, carb set-up, airbox or pods, and that is even BEFORE we get onto the smell . Mine is used to a diet of Castrol TTL synth (as per previous owner/builder), but tank is slowly running out (I dont get to ride much...sigh).
Bought some Silkolene (all I could find at the time that looked quality and synth) but am thinking I will stick to what the bike has been used to for last 4 yrs without a hitch

anyone got tips on what to run in my RD400. i'm setting it up for pre-mix and will be ditching the airbox in favour of pods

is there anything that needs to be particularly considered for the older bikes?
