changing 2 stroke oils

Hey all, chasing a bit of advice-

I run an Aprilia RS125, which currently uses Motorex Speed Mix 2T oil, fully synthetic. Got advised to change to Motorex Cross Power 2T, which is a lower smoke synthetic blend. As I'm not racing it should keep my engine cleaner?

SO: Is this sound advice? And if so, am I likely to cause any problems by changing the oil type in the engine? (Ie should I drain the tank first, mix half half etc...?)

Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

The easiest method would be to run your tank low and top it up with the new stuff. If you're using the bike daily this shouldn't have any effect on mixing the two oils. I did this with the RGV (changed from Shell to Castrol) with no problems.

Just decide if you really need to first.

^^ have heard that some combinations of oil can turn to jelly and clog everything up.

Personally, I'd drain the oil and fuel tank, run say, 5 bucks worth of premix fuel through the bike (no oil in the oil injection) and then re-fill with the oil of your choice.

thro: yeah some can turn to jelly although from what I've read that's only after prolonged periods. Running the tank low and topping up is completely safe.

the jelly theing happens when you mix castor with some synths.
if ur sticking with the same brand just changing blend then you should be right topping the oil res up with new stuff at any time.
