    Getting into the Strokers

    Heyo Folks.

so my little vtr is stuck in sydney and i'm trying to sell it to buy another bike back over here. i was thinking about getting into 2 strokes. from what i hear they're a lot easier to self maintain and i'd like to learn the in's and out's of how to get zen and maintain motorcycles.

so i'm thinking of dipping my foot into that lovely blue smoke. where would you suggest i start? is there a cheap and reliable starting bike? i don't want to do $2.50 around hairpins or anything, but i'd like to be allowed on the freeway. is it likely to be a money hole or can i get something that wont cost me a fortune in the long run?

i did do a quick search but if there's a thread i should be directed at, i'm happy to go there.

    thanks folks.

two stroke = hi revs = noise = BIG BANG = MONEY
In that order, two strokes are a passion and are great fun, i have two myself , but they are not cheap too run as an every day bike and will let you down at some point.

Start small and work up. A single cylinder is going to be far easier to maintain than a twin or more. If you like that logic then look into the Cagiva Mito or Aprilia RS125, maybe the NSR150 if you're after something a little lazier, though being Japanese I think it's better suited to those short in stature.

I can vouch for the RS125 being easy to work on and maintain - but if it isn't set up right to begin with you'll spend quite a bit of time on it. Parts are abundantly available both new and second hand on eBay or through PJME, as are genuine parts through Rick Gill motorcycles

Proper Super-sports riding position though, so different to your VTR in that regard. As is the power deliver - not much down low but hit ~8k and you're flying. 165km/h top speed (track tested - honestly) and once it's modified it'll leave 250 4-strokes behind on the straight, let alone the corners where the lighter weight and race-proven chassis suspension and brakes come into play. The new shape looks the shiz, wanstall has one for sale in the For Sale thread.

Happy to help you look one over if you're keen.

A DT200 with some 125(aprilia RS/Cagiva Mito) wheels on it, cheap, easy, reliable and tuneable
