    gsxr 1000 2001 brakes onto vj22

    hey

front brakes on my vj22 are fucked. I took it to the local bike shop, they said new seal kit for master cylinder which has been put in. the brakes are better but still not 100%.

I've been told that the calipers need a new seal kit and possibly new pistons. for the seal kit I've been quoted 155$ per side. My mate has a set of calipers/lines/master cylinder off a gsxr 1000 2001 model, does anyone know if these will swap straight onto my vj22 without any modification?

    $155 per side?
That sounds a tad high to me.

the master cylinder will, and it will make a big difference

just rebuild your calipers, fit new seals and clean up the pistons with 1200 grade wet and dry and finish with t-cut cutting compound

    fit ebc-HH pads

There's one (or two, on some bikes) seal in between the two caliper halves. You can almost always get away without replacing it, because it's completely static, but if you've got them apart already, it doesn't hurt to replace it.

If your RGV master has been recently rebuild and you're still not happy with the brakes, do a caliper rebuild before anything else.
A bigger master cylinder isn't always a good thing. Braking systems are designed with a particular size m/c to suit the calipers it's paired with.

Got the bike back this morning.

The brakes are 20x better than they were with the new mc seal's in, and i ordered in new seals for the calipers and HELL braided lines, also going to order in some new brake pads. Still doing research on which ones i should get though.

I got the new seal kit's from RGV spares.

I have cleaned and polished the calipers/pistons. Left them over night in brake cleaner to get all the grease out, then left them over night in brake fluid. reassembled and bled the system. brakes are still shit. bleeding process was:

    - open reservoir
    - top off with fluid
    - squeeze leaver
    - crack bleeder
    - close bleeder
    - release lever
    - repeat until no more air in fluid

Also bled at the MC by cracking banjo bolt a few times

tied back the lever overnight also

I have been looking around the net trying to find other causes and found this on EBC brakes website

You should not be able to move either the buttons or rotor blades from side to side, if you can, it is highly likely that pad “Knock Back” will occur and you will end up with spongy brakes.

    Any ideas?

I'm starting to think along the same lines

Its easy to test, pull calipers off and put piece of wood in and pull the lever tight and let it relax.. Still got lash? Its the mc
