just bought some rg250s

i bought 2 bikes of gumtree in cambletown last week same ole story.."yeah mate not running one has an electrical prob the other has water in the gear box" so i took a chance and drove down from newcastle .when i arrived they were both junked one looked like it had sat out side for 15 yrs and the other which was a race bike was seized solid mmm forgot to mention that in the phone call.. he wanted $900 i got them for $600 there was a spare bottom end....luckily...i got them home
the one that was weathered started but i pulled the pipes off and water ran out of them..prob due to rain...i removed the top end which was in top nick but the lh crank webs were rusty doh..!! i pulled down the race engine expecting a top end fail, nope all good, but the crank hand split apart and was seized against the cases..DOH! again... i dug out the spare bottom end ..fortunately this was in good usable condition.apart from someone had welded the front sproket on..yes you read that correctly..skipping through.. i have actually managed to complete a half decent bike from the two the race bike had new tyres and chain on it...
i totally stripped it cleaned and painted running it naked with riser bars i put some mufflers i had off a rd400 race pipes and man this thing sounds great..!! its 84 model non pv, i owned a 86mdl in 95...dont remember it sounding like this....im yet to ride it,,,as front brake needs sorting but apart from that i should be on the road again this week any one have much experience with these i dont remember them being much of a power house...

I have an RG250 sitting in my workshop currently.

Looking forward to finishing this little project!
New front springs, air filter, battery, good tune and tires!!
Had been sitting for around 15 years too (inside) cleaned carbies, cleaned and made sure oil pump running, started her up ran noice!!!

here is a pic after 7 days ...bit of pain and elbow grease and some new lights and indicators..
i was happy to have it lookin a bit rat and tuff...mind u it looks show room condition compared to what it was when i got them..lol

everything works...
still have not ridden it..lol..just had my first child a day ago so pretty hectic...
as for performance i wont be chasing big power as there really is not too much to gained easily again it will be a daily rider so reliability is more important.. how ever i do plan to simply put an rz engine in it..but in no rush i just got a 250 bottom end and will build it up with some standard banshee cylinders with a port job... with all the aftermarket stuff the stock ones are dirt cheap... and dont be fooled they can make great"fun" power! power valve or not..!!! i will bench the standard rg250 engine and swap it back in for rego time if needed as its getting harder to do these conversions in nsw now.

gangus are u after a disc?? and which bike u talkin about rzbarrel? the black on with rz motor is actually a dt200 frame with rz motor in it...

nah mate.
Its the same model as my brothers one.
The one I got the pipes off you for that he has been so slack at getting back together
single disc up front.
mk 2 came with 2 up front.
