kr1s With Photos
My brother has a KR1S that kicked him off a few years ago. He doesn't want to ride it any more (it scared him) but he has offered if I want it. I haven't seen it but he says that the fairings are fubar but would be ok to make a street fighter out of.
I've never riden a KR1 but I have a RGV. So the question is how much different is it to ride than a RGV. (in terms of handling and power etc.)

they are more aggressive than an rgv... more twitchy. They hold the land speed record for a production 250 (136mph).
I am looking for one of these at the moment, there are not many of them around in any condition. If you don't want it, please pass on the details as I would be interested in it.

There's been some talk about them in this thread
http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/foru...highlight=kr1s
Generally speaking, compared to an rgv, they are a smaller bike with less mid range but are geared better so they have a slightly better top end. The rgv is a nicer bike to ride, more refined, the kr1s' are often regarded as an animal known for spitting off riders. Sort of the attraction to them I guess.
Hard to get parts for anywhere, even overseas. Cranks cannot be bought new anymore and second hand cranks are hard to get hold of. They are dying out unfortunately.

I just talked to my bro, he will not sell it but has said I can use it etc.
I believe the pipes are damaged and needs some work. I'm going to have a look at it over the weekend and see how bad the damage is on it. He says that the frame has not been damaged.

Had a red, black and white KR-1. Not sure how much they differed to the KR-1S. Seemed to have a much more planted front end thn the RGV's of the time. RGV's front end felt lightr and twitchier under acceleration.

Was the front wheel actually on the ground?

I just bought an 2 stroke invetary of a bikewrecker and scored some parts made of unobtanium amids the more "common" bits.
Anyway if you want I'll can have a look over on yur bike if that help you, and no I do not want to buy it!
There is/are dedicated websides regarding the Kwaka 2 stroke esp in UK.

Had one, bought new in 91... gearbox jammed in second with 10k's on the clock, rebuilt gearbox under warranty... then around 8k it seized another factory #uck up top end re-build (rings spun) Very hard suspension and not as comfortable to ride as the RGV of that era. It used to tank slap at 110k cruising at around 6000 revs. Awesome bike to ride under hard acceleration, 200kph straight out of the box, bit like riding a wild bull... spat me off a couple of times, shit happens but sat in my shed for about 7 years recently (family in progress) sold it to my nieces boyfriend (was in perfect nick) now destroyed after a couple of crashes involving the 4 wheel variety. In hind site I should have kept it, would have made an awesome track bike seems a bit of a waste now, but he is trying to restore it. The only real trouble I had with it was it wore out the power valves seals and linkages and also the stator coil in later years until I found a rewind shop in Geelong that could fix... I do miss the old girl, like others have said it is getting near on impossible to get parts for them now so they are getting to be a rare breed....

As opposed to the RGV, which is renowned as a cuddly bike that is kind to children
Back to the topic... if its being given away, take it, certainly. Just be aware of what you're getting yourself into with regards to the scarcity of spares...
edit:
Definitely don't use it as a track bike. You'll kill it and then not be able to fix it.

I'll get my 1984 KR going propperly and we'll see how it goes on a trackday sometime soon even with me on it.
The Kwaka's kick arse.
everything is fixable, only limited to the determination of the fixer!

^^ haha true
I just consider them rare enough that I'd hate to see it have a big off and be taken out of action permanently.
I guess what i mean is 'track day' = ok. But dedicated track use as in race series = crazy.
