Nsr150sp

Okay, so I saw another NSR150 for sale today - and need people's opinions/advice.

18,xxx km on the clock.
New rubber.
Most fairings/handlebars/suspension in good nick.
One slow/medium speed drop on the LHS. Slight damage to LHS fairings and some other bits on other LHS. Nothing a bit of wet&dry and touch-up paint won't fix.
Dodgy repaint of front white part of fairing of bike (around headlights) nothing major, just looks like it's been done by a six year old with alzheimers.

Here's the kicker.

No maintenance history. No rebuild history. No idea what's been done to the bike, what oil they've run through it etc. Haven't taken it for a test ride yet.

So, guys and girls of PSB, what do you reckon is the go? I wouldn't mind a 2-smoke project, but also need something I can ride regularly and not have up on stands for weeks at a time. Should I be running away screaming from this and not even considering it?

What's a reasonable asking price, and is there anywhere available that will give it a reliable once-over before I hand over the cash? Are NSR150 parts hard to get hold of?

Any advice/help/assistance/unwanted pregnancies would be appreciated.

Depends on price.

I wouldn't think that no rebuild history would be a HUGE issue with the bike so long as it is factored into the price. 2 strokes need semi-regular, cheap top end rebuilds for optimum performance anyway, so whether or not it's been done already, you will need to do one sooner or later.

I'd certainly check out what else is around, if you can find an RS125, I believe they're a better bike - more of a pure race rep, whereas the NSR150 is more of a commuter bike with a 2 stroke 150cc stuck in it. Or so I've heard.

If you want a honda, try find an NSR250

Honda NSR 150 Sp

eY buddy, ive got an Sp. The Bike is great fun to ride and eats most 125's easy. (except for mitos and rs's, havent raced any tho.) Things to look for when purchasing..
1: does the bike rev all the way to and beyond the redline mark..(any gear)
2: When switching the bike on before kickstarting it, listen closely for the powervalve opening and closing if you dont hear anything then walk away.. powervalves are pricy to repair.
3: check all electronics are working.( the button that switches from high to low beam etc.)
4: go with your gut.. if you can sense the guy/girl is trying to cover something up about the bike when you ask question you have to know something is wrong especially with no service history.

anyways thats all i can help with in my little experience so far. hope all goes well.

18K??
all it could need is a set of rings and a decoke, maybe.
Start it up and have a listen.
Then ask yourself if you realy want it and how much you wanna pay for tit.

Sorry to rag on NSR150 owners, but I'm not a huge fan of them. I found them extremely dainty (coming from an RS owner) and better suited to small tiny framed people. When i sat on one it was just too small and felt flimsy, and im a standard sized bloke on the leaner side.

What year is it? I wouldn't look at paying more than $3k for one that was meticulous. Granted they are a cheap pick up and would provide a good learning platform. Im not sure on parts for one of these though.

Id suggest a Mito or an RS125 if your looking at a baby 2 stroke. I rode my RS a fair bit to and from work, as long as you keep the revs up she was happy.

if you get to look around it, see if any of the bolt heads have been drilled for a locking wire ,this will tell if its been a track bike....but basically just ride it and listen to it, none of it is hard to fix

If he has dropped it just check the forks.. I had one and dropped it.. Didn't do much dammage. just a little bit of fairing dammage.. But my front tire hit the curb when I slid, I didn't notice it strait away.. But I thought the forks had twisted.. I tried fixing it later.. Only to find out from one of the people at a dealership I spoke to that the forks BEND really easy on them!! Very cheap to replace.. But just get on go for a ride like the other guys said and have a look..
