picked up my rgv today, it broke.... :(

picked up my rgv today from forest field and road it nearly all the way home to rockingham.

anyway about 5k's from home the bike made a noise and then it sounded very rattly. so turned bike off. stashed the bike overnight in a business nearby and a nice bloke gave me a ride home.

    was a fun day

bad luck dude.. not an uncommon story though hope you didnt pay too much for it.

they seem to be hand grenades if not lavished with knowledgable mechanical attention, plenty of info in the 2T section on rebuilding them funnily enough :p

Hmm, I wonder why it is so common to drop the more robust RZ mill into the RGV (YamaGamma) frame.
PS. Why did Aprilla use the Suzi motor? Frontal area?

BTW, have since learned RGV suspension aint near as quality as it looks - those flash looking USD forks have very primitive rebound damping, hence cheapest mod is heavier oil and reduced air gap to reduce dive. I know this cos its what my modded RZ has.... and have seen the cartridge internals
Does this make it less fun? NO WAY!

Its a real sinking feeling when they sh*t the can. Sorry to hear. My rgv did a conrod big end bearing at 9500 within first 1200kms. Since I have learnt lots about them..... lol. When I got my rs I rode it home and the engine was removed for inspection. Every part on these things are consumables and must be repaired/ replaced in due course. It sucks so much that you didnt even get her home! Best of luck with the diagnosis

Am guessing its maybe because the plugs/jetting are not suited to the weather, its been sitting in storage, and you rode it home on a nice hot day like today...

    unlucky.

They're pretty easy to rebuild though, hopefully the bores aren't too munted....

thestewy09, YammaGamma the girl and put in a tried and true powerplant - Banshees are still on sale new (RZ mill, just no powervalves) Yamaha made the engine to last (no ring change at 5k) and can still put out enough power to scare the bejesus out of yah. Work out if cheaper to fix or to go hybrid (keeping in mind the rego issues - my frame and engine numbers match). Sorry to hear a joyful blat ends in tears

the yamgam is more and rz-rg thing, not rgv. Its not common in the rgv world, the rs is a more common starting point.

I am not sure why aprilia went with the rgv motor, the v is skinnier than parallel, they both have pros and cons for working on them. Maybe parts availability, it would have to be one of the most abundant 2T motors around that makes reasonable power out of the box and is easy to get parts for.

Don't think I've seen an rz powered RGV... it definitely wouldn't be a cheap excercise.

Some guys chuck an RG500 engine in there. That might save a few dollars over the RZ option
