RS250 - Better Swingarm and Barrel needed

    Hi All,

Bought an '02 RS250 project bike on the weekend, it's in need of quite a bit of work and I'm happy to do it.

But with the extent of work that I'm planning on, I'd really like a top notch finish and there's no way the swing arm is going to allow that - it has been chewed by the chain and there's no way it'll polish out. I've tried Motorcycle Masters for one, they have a dented unit which isn't going to do me any better. So does anyone have one lying around or... a good one on their race bike that they'd be interested in swapping with me for a (worthwhile) cash difference? Or somewhere else to try (I tried Two Wheel Wreckers also).

Also one of the cylinders was badly chewed by the broken crank - something I was made aware of prior to buying it. It needs replacing, does anyone have an Aprilia barrel that they'd care to sell? As long as it suits re-plating as a minimum condition then I'm interested.

Please PM or post any ideas that may help. I spent Saturday night through to Sunday morning on the computer researching bits and pieces, anything you can think of would be great.

    Thanks

are you sure the swingarm can't be polished out?

i'd take it to Refleks in Malaga and run it past them, they might suprise you like they did me recently.

Appreciate the idea and recommendation (and it may well come to that, along with stickers to conceal it further) but for the moment let's say no? I'm familiar with what polishing can achieve and it wouldn't cut it I'm afraid.

Tyga are now producing carbon fibre swingarm covers...
Might be way easier in the long run

For all my used spares, including for the RS, my first port of call is always deet at rgvspares... for price, and availability.

    Thanks guys for your input.

I found RGV Spares thanks to the search engine and a previous post of yours Lee J* They listed used spares but no swingarm or Aprilia barrel (they did have an undamaged nose cone which I was considering until a chat with Potato ruled it out as unnecessary).* ...But I had another look after seeing your reply and it turns out they are currently wrecking a Mk1 RS250 so maaaaybe I’ll be in luck... although I don’t know if they’re interchangeable.
    *
Incidentally I was going to have the crank rebuilt using the centre seal available from RGV Spares and a recon kit from PJME but Ray Easson suggested mine will need a new centre web due to throwing the rod.* A new centre web from Savage Suzuki is $550, a whole new crank from The Tuning Works is ~680 plus postage... no brainer.
    *
Gangus – the CF from Tyga covers the front of the arm, the damage covers a significant area beneath the chain guard.* It could be made to look about 80% with a polish, decals might happen but I love the original appearance and if I’m spending good money on paint and bling I don’t want it to be let down by a blemished swingarm unless I can hide it well, but a good suggestion.*
    *
So currently I’ve got RGV Spares and Paul from Rick Gill on the case – he’s extremely helpful and thinks there might be a factory second swingarm lying on a mezzanine floor somewhere.* Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, if you have a spare please let me know!

    And barrels please.

Have you emailed deet? As he doesn't list everything on the site.

I would ask sean at ttw before ordering the crank, I am not sure if he'll post it, he mentioned something about only posting them to UK. Post would be expensive due to weight.

Barrels my understanding is they are the same as N onwards 22 rgv, though they may have different stamps on them, can't remember off the top of my head. Again if looking for used, deet, if new either grab a suzuki one or go to af1racing if you want an aprilla one.

I emailed deet using the site contact page, there's no phone number listed and I didn't see a direct email. We'll see what he comes up with by way of swingarm and barrels.

Be a shame if TTW don't post cranks. JL dropped PJME as a supplier and instead of being $900 for a pair of SS and CF pipes it will now be $1,200 plus postage from JL on eBay - if it costs an additional $400 on the net price for a new crank I'll start feeling as though it's a sign to reassess. There's a fair bit I'm after from TTW and that might help... I'll call them as you suggest, cheers!

postage from the uk for anything over 2kg is prohibitively expensive.
I ordered a whole heap of stuff for my rgv and spread it out over 2 orders.

I'll look to spread it out a little to avoid paying the 10% for totals over $1,000, but I've had plenty sent over by PJME for the 125 at reasonable prices - £110 for an exhaust and end can, carb, pod filter, reed block, gaskets, plus plenty else and it was here in a week.. It depends on who they use to send it I guess.

Deet at RGVSpares FTW, as Lee suggests it's not all listed on the site.

    Cheers again guys.
