Top end over haul.
so can it be saved with a rebore and oversized pistons + rings? or is it more complicated?

i read somewhere that the ports should be lightly chamfered to prevent them catching the rings, maybe this is what happened?

All barrels are off and being made ready for some more riding pleasure.
Piston, rings etc are on their way!
NOS RZ500 oversize pistons are no longer available from Yammies, but Prozz does have some that do fit.
Also picked up my refurbished RG 500 crank with all the new Factory stock that I managed to get!
We're going somewhere now!

Jamathi, re: oversize pistons and rings where do you get the specifications? ie: whne you pull it all to bits, how do you tell what you have got so you know what to order?

Get the barrels bored to a specific oversize to get the marks out.
Catalogue tells you what is available and one goes from there.
A machine shop that realy knows what they are doing is a given!
Ray Easson's Engineering is certainly one of them.
