should i get a stroker?
i am looking at getting my first bike.
i shall be getting a loan from a mate so i could possible come up with about 3500 at maximum.
i have always liked two strokes, just the smell and sound is alot better in my eyes that the annoying chug chug of a 4 stroke 250.
anyways i wanted to ask if it was possible to pick up an rgv 250 for roughly for that price? (hopefully a little less) and if there is anything i should know about the Rgv before i go ahead and buy one?
cheers.

if your getting a loan (especially from your mate) dont do it. what happens if it seizes up on you 2weeks after you buy it and you cant afford to repay him??? he aint gunna want a broken bike and you may end up with broken legs.
TBH if you have to ask then maybe you shouldn't get a 2 stroke. if you've done the research you should know if its for you or not.

vtr's are prolly the pick of the bunch of the "still manufactured" learner 4 stroke bikes. but you might have touble finding one that cheap coz they hold their value really well. for 3.5 you will get a kwaka tho.

Borrowing money from a mate is a bad idea considering that the bike is just a first expense, if you can't afford a bike in the first place then you probably can't afford to insure it properly and maintain it properly.

Just to give you an example of costs, if the worst happens and you need to buy new RGV parts:
Barrels: $650 each
Power valves: $800 (good ones)
Pistons/rings: $400 ish
Have a power valve failure, and if you were to replace with new parts, you *could* be up for almost $2k to fix it (likely quite a bit cheaper with secondhand parts, or if not everything on that list needs replacing, but you see the point hopefully).
First bike, 2 stroke, i'd be looking at Cagiva 125s or Aprilia RS125s - being single cylinder there's half as much to fuck up and they're a lot newer - they also don't have the RGV power valve issues (that i'm aware of).
What Bertie said - if its going to have a loan attached, get something low maintenance...

Yeah i got a mate bought a kwaka ninja on borrowed money... hes up the duff now cos he wrote off the bike - cant afford to fix it and pay his mate at the same time, can't sell it cos it don't work no more.. don't do it its not worth the pain. But I agree there's something more satisfying in the sound of a two stroke engine
