What octane fuel do you run in your 2 stroke?

Just curious what octane fuel does everyone run in their 2 strokes? In the owners manual for my yamaha dt230 it recommends 91 octane fuel, but i have been running it on 95 and 98 octane fuel.

What are peoples experience with 2 strokes? are they better with a lower octane fuel because of the fuel/oil mix or are higher octanes better?

    Cheers

    Tom

RGV isn't keen on 95 from Caltex, I refuse to line BP's pockets, Shell isn't near me so I have never tried. It seems to run hard on Gull/Peak so usually I run 95 or 98 depending if I have a fuel docket on me

Moriwaki 80 (Honda cr80 engine) loved the 91ron.

Low octane burns faster, but higher octane burns with more 'oomph'

This had had 100+ octane, but was noticeably better when tuned on the 91.

98 Shell V-Power. Notice the difference (at least in my head) from Caltex Vortex and that detergent from BP .. never tried Gull or Peak

i run 98.. with increased compression ratio and race pipes and lots of fuel. since i wrecked my first engine build by slagging pistons and spraying melted aluminium all through the crankcase i dont take any chances with low octane gas

Interesting you say that. I'm probably running higher comp than you and I've been running it on 95 for years. Stock rs 91 or 95 is fine.

I run 98 on my proddy ones.
When you have it pinned in top gear with 12cc volume and tight squish, you don't want it to pop!

I run my RG500 on BP 91. It seems to like it best. I'll occasionally run a tank of 98 to clean jets (theroretically) then switch back.

well f**Kin blow me down. So i assume that Shell, caltex etc all get the fuel from this same refinery and then make adjustments to it to suit their own formula or is that all marking BS? or is the 98 stuff i buy at Shell the same as at BP same as caltex etc?

my kart uses 91 (dont have a 2 stroke bike) I tried running on 98, wouldnt start...

The different RON fuels have different burn charcteristics, I think it is best to use what the engine was designed for, if you modify the engine you may need to think about moving to a different RON fuel than standard.

Yep. 1 refinery in WA, down at Kwinana. A very small amount of fuel is imported from eastern states and Singapore, but it is a tiny amount in the scheme of things.

They all claim they make adjustments to the fuel they buy off BP. How true that is, and the extent of these adjustments is something i don't know.
