What is an RS250 Worth?
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone could give me a ruff idea what a good condition Aprilia RS250 is worth?
I'm having a hard time finding a good condition cbr250rr; and do like the RS250 but not sure if its in my price range around 5k (maybe could go alittle higher 6k)
I check out bike-sales and there is only on there for like 9k (2000,6,000km)
Also is there anything i should look out for when buying one? i remember reading that they will need a rebuild every 25,000km?
Cheers Michael

is it your first bike?

yes, i know its not advised to jump straight into a 2-stroker for ur 1st bike due to the very steep learning curve; but i'm in no rush to go fast, and will take my time (at this point just looking at another opinion)

It's the same theory as driving, you should NEVER jump in a racing car when you can't drive!
An RS250 is essentially a racing bike with indicators on it, and a number plate (correct me if I'm wrong) therefore is not really suited to a learner, I'd suggest if you want controlable grunt on a sports 250 stick with the four stroke, it will still be difficult on the slow turns etc, but wont jump across the road into the neighbours tree when you give it a bit much throttle.

i had alook at the RS125 but they are only $1000-$2000 cheaper than the RS250 (there are only afew for sales and so far the rs125 are around the 5k and rs250 around the 6-7k mark)

I would second the idea of getting a ZX2R excellant little bike very firgiving and because it is a great handling bike you can grow with it and be able to ride pretty damn good by the time you want to trade up to a bigger bike . On a side note unless you are a shortass i would not bother with the CBR250RR dont get me wrong they are an ok bike but i have found from riding a few of the Honda's and Kwaka's that the ZX2R is a far better bike.
A 2smoke is not a good idea if you have little to no experiance with bikes they are twitchy , abit like a psychotic midget with tourettes if you like !

an rs250 is worth what ever you are willing to pay.
the question you ask is almost like "how long is a piece string?"
you get ex track bikes/damaged POS for like 3K to pristine almost zero kms for 9K or more.

Seriously have a look at mito evos, saw one in flesh the other day and i seriously would've loved to have one as my biginners instead of the zzr. Its such a pretty bike (i think it was styled by tumburini) If i could only go back in time...

Seeing as they're not made anymore, and are the most powerful and advanced 250s available, they're worth a fair bit. Bear in mind that they sold new for about 14k, so I think you'd be hard pressed to find one in reasonable condition for less than 7k. They're also a lot harder to come by than CBR250s.
I learned on one, however I had previously ridden a fair bit on a ZZR, and also have a dirt biking background.

I would really be sadden to see a rs250 being written off by a learner.
Seriously, back to mitos, they look good on black too

don't worry if i bought an RS250 i would not right it off, I have a clue and understand what it means to have something which is powerful and can kill you. Also if i was to buy one i would have my RE license by then.

The Mito was styled as a copy of the Duc 916 (which was designed by Massimo Tamburini; he also styled the MV F4 & had one of their models named after him).
Mitos, nice bikes & great fun in the right hands (bertie ).
In my day everyone learned on strokers, RD250 were favoured, after which you progressed to an RD350 or 400, Suzuki GT380 or 550 (affectionately known as 'waterbottles'), or if completely insane a KH500/750 Kwaka ... always wanted the Kwaka myself.
One magazine back then described the Kwaka 750 as 'thatanoid', as I understand it 'completely insane'.

wriiting a bike off is not something you have much of a say in.
you are not invincible.

umm im not sure what that comment is meant to mean but to give you some background info of myself i have been driving for 4 years, learnt to drive on turbo import, never lost my license, never had an accident in my import and spent alot of time building it up (350rwhp), spent alot of time on the track with it too.
So i do consider myself to be level headed and know im far from invisible. I know a bike is miles away from a car but i think i am sensible enough to know where my limits are and not to push beyond them.
Also i do understand that there are factors out of my control when riding a bike, and you can be the best rider in the world but things can happen which are out of your control
