    What's a '85 RG500 Gamma Worth?

    G'day,

I found a Gamma for sale and it has 48,000 kms on the clock. It appears in excellent and very clean condition. It runs well and has new tyres. No other history but it's in stock trim.

The guy wants $13,000+ for the bike unregistered. Seems like huge $$ but these exoctic two-strokes are very hard to find these days.

    What do you think?

I suspect that if you do not buy it someone else will.
13K asking, wave something less in cash in front of the seller after you checked it out propperly and see how you go.
There were +/-13000 worldwide, including the Japanese 400cc, total made of these most desirable machines and plenty have been scrapped.

    Mate,

I think you're right. He's had offers of $12k so far. He knows what he's got there and prices are on the rise. There was one RG500 that sold for $34,000 on eBay about 9 months ago with 17 kilometers on the clock (claimed).

When will prices on RGV's rise? I suppose it depends if one can find a minter, if there's any left out there...........

better act quick if you want that one!
There are "minters" in some very selective garages, believe it or not, they do excist!
    P.S.
RGV are 250 Hirshima screamers with strong kamikazi tendencies by the way!

If you rode a rg500 as designed they WILL let go in a most spectacular way (two cranks) if still in "orig condition". If you want to ride you would rebuild no questions. The price of rebuilding a rg 500 will hurt more than a wine bottle up the poopa and the rgv will still out corner the fucker. Pay what you will but include the overhaul in your budget. Have fun

Bike looks pretty nice from the picture, but lower part of fairing is missing.
RG500 is on the list of bikes I'd like to own if I win lotto.

Good idea. Have any idea I should keep in "reserve" for the rebuild?

    Aus delivered vs. Jap Import

How much difference does it make to the value of a bike being a Jap import vs. original AUS delivered? Any thoughts on this?

    To get rebuilt.....
    RG500 Tuning
He is the best. plus shipping (dont forget the nova gearbox)
I believe that jap import means nothing in pre '88 bike as they can be complied without issue.

Yikes! Anyone rebuilds these in Aus??

I saw an ad once for a rebuilt RZ500, and the seller claimed that he spent $2,500 to rebuild his Yamaha and had receipts to prove it.

    Two-strokes, a rich man's folly!

    I think i wouldn't pay $13k for it.
Personally, i'd rather a Titan, an R5 and enough change to ensure they're both concours.

Not enough, for parts and crank rebuild would swallow more than that in OAM yamaha/suzuki parts cost.
Then if you would charge for labour hours spend doing it,........ ahh
    Never mind!
What would I know about it.

The mere fact that the decalling on the side rear panels is missing is suss in my observation.
The #'s on the engine block should tell something.
This VV is what a Aussie complianced version looks like, spot the difference in the AEC decal on the fairing.

    Decode VIN?

I got the VIN # can anyone decode: HM31A1xx to see if a true RG500.

I'd love to ride it but it's being sold by a classic dealer in another state (yikes, sight unseen....)
