What's a '85 RG500 Gamma Worth?

dead givaway on a 400 is it dosent have floater discs on the front
engine mumber is different

another giveaway is no belly pan which is comon to the jap market

also jap import bikes are restricted for their domestic market

also check the cc number on the barrels if it starts with a 3 or 4

engine cases are different but with a bit of work you can convert to a 500

the bike in your pic looks as an import so if it is make sure he has the import papers or it will never be licenced as it might of made its way in the country in pieces then assembled

if its aussie export bike it will have aussie compliance plated fitted

13k is not bad as as that what they go for around the world

there was a real nice one in sydney for 13k it didnt sell so he kept it

hey fredie, i'm one of the newbies to all this forum stuff, still trying to work it out. When i see and hear RG 500 chat it brings back a lot of good memories of great rides and mates. I'm now 40 and riding a '92 Fj12 and i'm envious of all you buggers that still have 'em in your garage. When i found out what they're worth now I had to respond! Don't hide them, ride them.

If it is jdm, it is rg400. They did not release the 500s in japan.

They did come in a few dirrerent colourschemes, this is the "Most common" one.
very few made , from hazy memory +/- 700 ex.
one of the features should be a combined temp/fuel dash unit.

The 400s were released to JDM for the 400cc racing series.

There were 22 1988 rg500s released for JDM. I suppose you could get one of the 22 bikes? I don't know their fate. My thoughts are such a small number would not be for market.

I've never seen a JDM 500, have you got some info to share?

I am going to look at a 1986/87 Walter Wolf RG500 this evening/tomorrow evening and have the Vin's for the WW models to check it against from the common thread source (883 - 982). What I really should have asked is, what is a good price for a '86 WW RG500 in Aus. The bike is not currently in Aus, but it would be one day if I buy it. Any help much appreciated and sorry for the thread jack (again).

On those figures 10145 RG500 road bikes were produced overall.
And 5352 RG400 bikes.


Anybody that has got an RG500, please consider to show it on 21-11-2010 at the Toodyay motorcycle show and shine.
same for RZ500 and NS400R plus any other 2stroke powered classic!

That doesn't mean they are JDM bikes, which is what my statement says. As an example rgv250 VJ23T models were JDM, VJ23V models were all export (for hong kong), yet the majority of the V models today are sourced from Japan.
