    Yamaha RD 250-350-400/TD3-TR3 topic.

Better start a slightly older model Yamaha topic here.
It is clear a few of our members are in the process of building/restoring these trend setters.
PLEASE DO POST PICTURES OF THESE AIRCOOLED YAMAHA'S!
Lots of the newer generation never seen these aircooled beauties
Still to be found in sheds and garages all over the countrieside!

If you do have one that is in the way, I and some others will gladly take it away to be restored back to being used/driven again!
These, 1971-2-3 were the day's that a production race bikelike this

was directly based on a road version that anyone with the $$ could buy and succesfully compete in international-national racing!

Here a picture I found of Barry Sheene on the French importers sponsored (Sonauto) TD3 250cc aircooled twin cilinder Yamaha around 1972-3 just before he went to Suzuki!
One of his team mates was Jarno Saarinen

    What else have you got?
Engine, wheels, forks, exhausts, ignition, fairing?
The frame you have, what is it ?(the stamping on the head tells you, first cluster like 351 =RD350 )
It is a roadbike frame and the footpegs plate can be cut of.
Nothing wrong with a roadframe by the way!

I am in a similar boat and need to find more parts along the way.
This is also a roadframe of a RD350B modded with the 9'

Mines an RD400C frame (76) which I'm paring back as a TZ350A replica. Thought about doing an aircooled replica (TR) but will most likely use a water top. Also building a H model copy from a RZ frame and motor with Banshee top end and total loss ignition.

    What stuff you looking for?

On the RZ based bike I'm thinking of using a set of 28mm flatslides I have with my genuine G model pipes (or copies if I can get them) with Electrex ignition.

On the 400 framed bike it will be a set of Gibson pipes if I can't get copies with 28 or 34mm roundslides and Femsa ignition (total loss).

Ignition (total loss), rims, rear shocks and front fork/brake caliper.

Yep and the rear is not far off either, tank about 1k if good and frame with unbroken fairing mounts also not cheap. A lot of this stuff can be sourced from France and Holland, the prices will make your hair stand on end.

Great to see a 250 coffin tank and looks a very good job you have done with it.

Trevor Discombe at the Hamilton Road Races in 1978 or maybe 9 my (Ex) wife took the pic as she went I was working. I think it was a TZ700 from memory which is fading.

My production race/ ride to work bike RD 350 Pukekohe NZ Castrol One Hour Production Race tuned by Trevor Discombe

Well a bit of an update is in order.
Made the Pipes fit inside the fairing so the bottom belly pan can be used.

Bought propper wheels from a fellow PSBer, Thank you very much and mucked about with other bits to get it to this state, whereby the fairing stay's will be made and welded into position.

Fairing sits just loose and will fit better when all the bits are in place.
So far so good, now the decision which colourscheme to choose.

The Don Emde Daytona winner scheme?

    Kenny Roberts Yamaha USA scheme

    The traditional production colour scheme?
The rear seat is an old genuine Daytona seat of the era, which I like better than the proddy unit.
