yamaha rz350: my first test ride

i was fortunate enough to be offered the keys to a fresh rz350 ('83)- tyres still unscrubbed

so i thought i should give a ride report

first impressions:

awesome red and white classic yamaha racing stripe pattern up the rear ducktail.. very noice

pros:

loud.. lots louder than you would expect a 350 to be, in a goodway- lets you know you can stop kicking it

clutch lever, very firm.. like you would want your brake lever. if any squids tried to steal it, they would stall it when trying take off

engine comes on the pipe like an rgv250 would if it was a 350


cons:

acewell digital tacho and temp guage sux balls

Yes.. Tacho is a bit ghey... I think it needs a resister to settle the pulse down.

it wasnt the signal static that i didnt like, i just couldnt interpret the thing.. same as the 04-05 zx10r.. meaningless black bar with no scale

if you mark 10500rpm on the scale with some red insulation tape.. so you can see how far the black LCD bars are from the redline it could be ok

It will get a whole lot prettier with some painted panels, tank and a new exhaust.

Whats happening with the tacho is its just erratic because of the signal its getting, I'm pretty sure it will get easier to read if I dampen the signal. I do tend to agree though, its certainly not the best compared to an analogue unit.

I wouldn't mind seeing the tacho running. My tacho was having a problem which seems to have completely sorted itself out, I can't remember it not working in the last few weeks.

Where are you getting the signal from?

Signal is from the coil.

I'll look through the wiring diagram, I'm pretty sure I'm using a 85+ harness/CDI I should be able to get a pulse from somewhere else.

My unit was getting the signal from the coil and was very erratic, so I changed to the tacho feed from the original clocks and it got a lot better.
