My boss does gliding / is an instructor and is always asking if i want to go up in the two seater.
Has anyone done it?, is it worth it?
I prefer my planes to have an engine or 4 attached to it.

About a dozen of us did it last weekend. It's fantastic!

fair enough, will have to take him up on his offer once the weather gets a little better.
On an unrelated matter, the link to the vid still produces squat diddley![]()
of course it is worth it , when you start out with an old crop duster farting and carrying on down the runway with you in tow , you will be sitting in the front just in case the prop falls of the tug this gives the instructor who will sitting in the back time to duck , when you reach a speed of about 20 kph the tug leaves the runway and heads for the sun and for a few moments you are still on the ground wondering what the fuck is going to happen next , before you can blink an eye or change your undies you are off after the sucker heading straight up like neil armstrong, after a minute or two the instructor will tell you to pull on the leaver to release the tow line then you really do have to change your undies , anyways you will float about and have a good look around and he will then give you instructions on how to land the sucker which is not so bad heading towards the ground at what feels like 300 kilometers per hour and when you do touch down it's just like doing a mono on a cattle grid . have fun![]()
I'm guessing its been a while since you have flown?
In actual fact the glider will start flying before the tug.
The glider will fly at about 45kph... the tow plane a bit later at about 60kph.
Its also not a "head for the sun" senario... its all done at quite flat/horizontal angles.
What you have described is closer to a winch launch ... where there isnt a tow plane involved.
