    Unhappy blackbird wrist ache

are there any other blackbird riders who suffer from the above , and what can one do to rectify the problem, is it because one is getting old and needs a more upright position in this case bike must go, or is there a fix to solve the problem help needed

    thank you in advance

describe the pain a little more, better yet answer these few questions

Where abouts on the hand/wrist ?
Is it dull, sharp or stabbing ?
Does it develop after a certain time on the bike ?
Does weather (ie the cold) make it worse or better ?
Any past injuries to that wrist/hand/forearm ?
How long have you been riding ?
    How old are you ?
Are you an active person ?
When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be AWESOME instead. True story.

is it both or just one or the other i have torn ulna nerve and on long rides use a throttle lock witch helps heaps as i dont need to hold the throttle as hard have also found that high touring screens increase pressure on the arms and wrists as the force of the wind on the upper body is less leaving the weight on the arms. also my leather jacket weighs 7kg and the textile is a lot less so I notice the difference when swapping between the two.
But a bit more info is probably going to help

+1 all of the above are relevant to the solution, a company called heli bars in the US make modified bars to improve the ride position, oxford make nice heated grips if your hands get cold causing circulation to suffer and thicker grips plus heavier bar end weights will help with vibration but that's not much help until you know if its vibration, temperature, or physical fitness/possible previous injury to blame.

I fitted Heli Bars to my Busa, as my wrists are screwed from dirt bike riding, the heli bars moved the grip position back 5/8 of an inch and raised the grip position about 1 inch, this has made a huge difference and now I have no wrist pain. I was very surprised at how much difference such a small change made, The heli bars are very well made, and finished. No screwing around, first time fit. Also I didnt have to lengthen any cables or lines.

Or strengthen your lower abdomen, carry your weight through there instead of through your arms.

Heli bars, VFR800 bars or a cruise control system are all good options.
Remember half the cagers out there are below average drivers...

^^^^ cost of gym membership as opposed to cost of heli bars = win for heli bars :-)

This. You want the VFR 800 bars from 02 to 08, or the helibars.

Don't get sore wrists riding my bird, but am looking at helibars for comfort later on.

Try not supporting yourself so much with your arms. Sit back in the seat a bit and squeeze the tank with your legs.

Heli bars are great, I have some on my Gixer thou. They are a little pricey (about $400 ish a few years ago), but make a huge difference, & are made from alloy billet so fit & finish are excellent.

Something else to check, look at your wrists when on the bike & using front brake/clutch. If your hands are at an upword angle from your forearms, this can cause discomfort in your wrists (carpal tunnel syndrome). The solution to this is to adjust the angle of your front brake/clutch down so your hands are in a straight line with your forearms as much as possible.

Changing the bars is the lazy mans (IE: me) fix.

The proper way is as mentioned, work on using your core to support your weight instead of your arms and wrists. But don't lock your back, that's just moving the problem from a to b.

Yeah I've put VFR800 Vtech bars (01>) on my Bird and that made a huge difference to me there is also Helibars as mentioned or a cheaper way is bar risers but whereas the VFR/Helibars move the bars up ~25mm and back ~20mm the risers just lift the std bars ~19mm There are also Convertibars and Gilles Variobars which allow much higher lift (up to 100mm ) and movement back but they are a lot more expensive

I have carpal tunnel and a bad back and they did make a huge difference but so did adjusting my sitting position, angling down the levers, fitting a Vista Cruise and foam grips

I had carpal tunnel as well, it was such a pain that I had no choice but to get it fixed. my hands fell asleep and I could not feel a thing. once it was fixed all was good. it took me about 3-4weeks to get back on the bike. It was well worth then trouble as it really improved my life.

I'm thinking about getting the operation as it's slowly getting worse with age Who did your op? I thought about it years ago but was put off by a guy I knew who had it done and ended up with complications and large scars on his wrists I do believe it's a lot better now as it's "keyhole" surgery

I had the first one done in 02, operation was done at Bicton Privat Hospital, cant remember the Doc. Second one was in 08, through the Hand Centre in Nedlands at Holiwood Hospital. Both were day surgery. The first one was key hole
Surgery, the last one open, but it can not be seen. I started early to train my left hand to do things I usually do with my right, and. For the love of your family.......don't do both hands at the same time
