Customising your Bike - the Rearsets

Customising Your Bike - The Rearsets
Bike customization is about making your bike reflect you as an individual. This can be done by simple bolt-on replacement modifications, or the more advanced custom paint-scheme and custom stickers, right the way through to major frame and hardware modifications such as street-fighters and extended swing-arms etc. This morning I want to introduce and identify the availability one simple modification that will effect how you interact with the bike, as well as make your bike that bit more like your own.

    Replacement Rearsets.
Rearsets are another simple, but very important part of your bike. They provide support for your feet, influence your body position on the bike by moving your weight forwards or backwards, may allow you to change the shift pattern from Standard to Reverse (GP) shift. In addition they effect cornering clearance of the bike, and can provide some form of protection in the case of crashes if they have solid mount pegs, rather than the factory standard spring mount pegs. The range of rearsets is huge. And it is too difficult for me to summarize all the options for each manufacturer. Below is some of the options available. This will be updated as new options are identified…..

Acculign. Limited to Ducati superbikes and a couple of Aprilia and MV blow-ins, but very pretty.

the problem i have found with aftermarket rearsets is they all seem to have rigid pegs which is fine but in the event of a heavy fall on the track, which lets face it does happen sometimes, they have a tendancy to snap off instead of folding back like originals

Umm, for a lot of them that's completely intentional. You snap off a peg rather than bending something important or, like i did, bending the footpeg into your exhaust. i know i'd rather replace a $200 peg than a $3000 exhaust.

Talking TechG Racing rearsets for Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki

I have a black pair on the R1, TechG Racing rearsets. They're inexpensive and look like many of the top brands, with readily available spares.

eBay Store - TechG Racing: Adjustable Rearsets, Awesome Look, GSXR @ USD259 to USD279 a pair

    Talking Vario footpegs

Not exactly a rearset, but for those older or more unique bikes (like my CBR400RR), rearsets aren't really an option or aren't available.

How to get the rearset look and feel on the cheap? Try Vario footpegs for BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha from AUD55.

With a different choice of colours, arrangements and looks.

Have just been shopping for rearsets and liked the Vortex for value for money vs performance & aesthetics. Got them from the States - sportbiketrackgear.com which was just cheaper than morepowerracing & cycleaddiction which I have also dealt with before.

Although with exchange rate well down, Darren at Kaneg (NSW I think, see 'shop stuff') had a very competitive option at $350 per set plus a small delivery fee. He uses them on the track on his CBR1000RR in the wet as well and swears by them.

Planning on getting some from Japan when I am over there later this year.

    Nao Racing

    Striker

    Moriwaki Engineering

Still a big fan of those Rizoma Two Tone rearsets / backsteps.

Anyone know if they are available for a K4 GSXR 750? Had a look on the website but couldn't find any.

The thing is, with so many on the market its like shopping blind.
like choosing which bike to ride - R6 Vs zx6 Vs Cbr600 - tho at least those you can test ride
How do you test ride rearsets! how do you choose. For me I guess it will be colour, price!

Nurse you are so right! It really comes down to what you find (that you like) at a price you like. In reality who gets to test ride rearsets? None of us anyway!

After a forced purchase, forced bling or whatever you want to call it. (lowside for me) i bought myself a set of Vortex rearsets, and love em!

For what it's worth Vortex is a good thang!
