DIY Radiator Guard VTR250

Since Im unable to ride at the moment I need to kill some boredom somehow so have decided to make a radiator guard.

What you will need:

Measuring Device
30cm x 30cm Aluminium Fly Guard (the strong stuff)
Electrical & Masking Tape
Scissors
Patience
Tin Snips:

Workbench & Helper:

Template that I made:

I took a trip across the road to Beards Security Doors and Awnings, in search of some appropriate material to use for a guard. They kindly donated an off-cut to me (which I have a suspicion they cut it especially for me ) free of charge.

First I measured up my rad guard. I came up with a paper template which I then attached to the aluminium with masking tape. I cut around the template with the tin snips which took about 30 mins and a fair bit of patience.

I have used the electrial tape as a temporary edging material until i can find something more permanent.

And here is how it came out:

Bike without guard:

Bike with guard:

I will secure it to the bike over the weekend with some zip ties and screws. Im fairly happy with how it came out for a little bit of effort and nil cost

If you go to Clark Rubber you can but edging that slips over the edge of the flyscreen, it looks better than tape..

I wouldnt say too much, because the gave me a free piece. But it would depend also on the size of the radiator you are making one for

Cool, looks good.

If you're still bored, can you make one for my bike?

I paid about $40 for a piece of security mesh cut close to size from one of the screen door places (I'm sure that if I had the time I could have scaled their fence late at night and raided their bins) and around $10 or less for the edgeing and a mate had a spare thermo fan mount/ziplock type things to easily fix it to the radiator.

So sub $50 if you had to pay for materials.
