RECENT CHANGES TO WA LICENSING LAWS EFFECT DRIVERS WHO ACCRUE 12 OR MORE DEMERIT POINTS.
From this date 8 Jan 2010 WA will also (who else does this?) offer the " DOUBLE OR NOTHING" OPTION TO ELIGABLE DRIVERS THAT FACE A DEMERIT POINT DISQUALIFICATION.
The "D or N" option means that eligible drivers can select to continue driving on a 12 month good behaviour Period instead of being disqualified.
However, should they elect this option, and they accrue 2 or more demerit points or commit an offence that leads to a disqualification during the 12 month period, they will receive DDOOUUBBLLEE the original disqualification period.
From the 30th June 2008 Extraordinary Drivers Licences (EDL's) will not be available for demerit point disqualifications, whether a driver elects for the
"D or N" option or not.

Check the Road Safety and Justice Department sites for info on penalties. I'd find the links but takes too long on iPhone.
