Double or nothing ? FARKLE your licence.

RECENT CHANGES TO WA LICENSING LAWS EFFECT DRIVERS WHO ACCRUE 12 OR MORE DEMERIT POINTS.

From this date 8 Jan 2010 WA will also (who else does this?) offer the " DOUBLE OR NOTHING" OPTION TO ELIGABLE DRIVERS THAT FACE A DEMERIT POINT DISQUALIFICATION.

The "D or N" option means that eligible drivers can select to continue driving on a 12 month good behaviour Period instead of being disqualified.

However, should they elect this option, and they accrue 2 or more demerit points or commit an offence that leads to a disqualification during the 12 month period, they will receive DDOOUUBBLLEE the original disqualification period.

From the 30th June 2008 Extraordinary Drivers Licences (EDL's) will not be available for demerit point disqualifications, whether a driver elects for the
"D or N" option or not.

On a personal note "WHAT THE"

Nothing's changed from what is written there... You've always had 2 points.

So is there a shopping list of things I can do wrong & not have to do the doubled penalty?.
There used to be a list on the rear of the A5 size Licence renewals we received.

And down the bottom, it said tear along dotted line, thats why we used to lane split ( oh yeh filter through traffic ) cause it said we could on the papers.
    ( yes tongue in cheek)

Yeah, obey all the laws and you won't have to make the choice. Check the Road Safety and Justice Department sites for info on penalties. I'd find the links but takes too long on iPhone.

    Ok deal for car drivers

Pretty tough for bike riders since the traffic act criminalizes a lot of standard practice riding behaviour

This has been in QLD for a while. It is good if you can behave yourself and youre lucky. Had a mate do it and then got pinged for not stopping at a stop sign (dumb of him yes).

IMO not worth it, just suck it up if youre caught or dont do it in the first place.

Well they had to offer something, they are currently in the process of trying to completely eliminate Extrodinary licences, thats what d or n is meant to replace basically.

All its really going to do is make people that have lost all their points over a three year period then lose another two, then lose their licence all together for a hell of a long time. Problem is most people will still get in the car a drive, doesnt really solve anything in the end, just makes a bigger problem.

    Slightly off-topic...

Say you choose to sit your disqualification.

If you do your time, do you get a brand new licence, or do you just get a point reversal of your last offence?

    All 12 back I believe.

If you take double or nothing and do the year without losing any points will your insurance still go up?

You get a separate licence for a car and bike but when your time has come, you lose BOTH of these licences. That really sucks because it’s like the Dr Jerkyll and Mr Hyde situation. You lose points when you are on your bike (Mr Hyde) and behave like a gentleman when driving a car (Dr Jerkyll).

They should change the law so that when you lose your bike licence, you can still drive your car (eg. go to work) as there fat chance of doing silly stuff as I don't get the urge to be Mr Hyde when driving.
