    Dye your kevlar jeans

My last two pairs of black kevlar jeans discolored on top of the thighs to a kind of maroon colour. I returned the Draggins for a refund because it happened in a few weeks but the Stariders still had a lot of life in them.

So I bought some "Dylon velvet black" dye $17. Put the powdered dye in the front loader along with half a kilo of salt and ran it on the 40 degree delicates cycle. After that cycle I added the soap powder and ran it on the 40 degree cotton/linen cycle. Took the jeans out and ran it empty again with soap to clean.

The jeans look really good. Like new in fact but the kevlar lining is now grey instead of yellow.

If my legs turn black next ride I'll report back.

All good, my legs didn't turn black when I sweated in them. The kevlar is a sort classy grey colour. The polyester labels didn't take on any colour at all.

Agrid, hi, one trip to Sydney and back killed my black draggins....they turned a light brown. I tried twice to dye them (a different brand of dye) and i didn't know about adding salt etc, but nothing happened at all.
I now have a black pair of their slick range and hang them inside out on the line, seem to be better, but bloody hell expensive.

I've got a pair of black Draggin Slicks. I always turn them inside out for washing and if you dry them in the shade out of direct sunlight there's even less chance of them fading.

My Draggins are about 14 months old and always washed following the care instructions. They are acceptable but the upper knee to quad area is turning a maroon colour.

    Thanks for this great tip.

I'm just a bit afraid to put black dye in the Front loader! I can imagine my wifes face and comment -

"Honey why are my linens grey?"
    Its all good.

Dyeing faded jeans?, paying them forward when they fade? Good god, they are just starting to get some character!

yeh, they fayed at the the bottom of the legs, so i was thinking at the time "how do these draggins save your skin when you cann't even walk around in them without them wearing out?"
But the worst was, being told, "why are your draggins maroon, (or i call brown)"

I have to look "professional" at work so purchased Draggin Chinos, the went maroon within a few weeks. The Red Wolf Sliders frayed around my enormous gonads after only a few months. The Stariders started to go maroon after about a year but were in excellent condition and fully lined with kevlar. That's why I dyed them.

Draggins R+D can learn a lot from this thread. I buy nice crisp black Draggins because they are nice and crisp, and black... and they are gonna save my skin. When they no longer serve the purpose I bought them for, I pay them forward, they will still def still save someone's skin.

Years ago i went to Phillip Island and was walking around in my Draggins and we went to their stand in the pavilion. They saw the faded colour of my jeans and got talking. They asked me to send them back and they would re-dye them for me, They even paid my postage both ways. I also had an extra 3 inches of Kevlar added in the lower leg area for free.
