    Helmet Exemptions: FORWARNING

So I do the paperwork to renew my exemption & a bloke tells me that when I apply next year (not in two or five years) due to an OH&S change. I need a neuro report to go along with it. Is the neuro report covered by Medicare I asked. No answer.

He was amazed that I did not have to do a neuro report this time. I am not clarivoint & howam I to know every time they change their frilly knickers & their minds about what hoops we now need to go thru to renew these things.
    Regards,

    Sooty.

    Another perfect day in paradise.

I wish I had an exemption. I'd jump through every hoop they wanted me to.

I thought they stopped granting new exemptions years ago?

As for others, if you want helmet exemptions back, you should probably start siding with the Sikhs. They're about the only ones with numbers enough and all mutually against helmets to get something done.

Well when you dont cut yr hair and have a tightly wound turban I guess you have SOME head protection. Maybe you need a new religion Sooty? . In india they can even carry their knives into banks - doubt onto a plane tho. Silly thing is, do they still provide real glass and steel cutlery in 1st class? Rules for some I guess.....

Medicare have deemed driving "not a medical essential"... therefore licence medicals not covered (except for short GP visits to do a quick sign off without any decent testing ...ie they are pretty confident there is no issue)

So the short of it for you:
    Nope.

You will have to find a neurologist that will be happy to sign that in his opinion that you dont need a helmet (who's insurance company will also be happy with that decision.)

Good luck with that hunt, and good luck with the full bill!
    I don't like your chances! :/

Real glass is routinely served on Qantas, and steel cutlery (inc knives) is now legal again on Australian flights - depends on economies as to if/when it will return to cattle class.

I suppose if you never had the chance to do it then you wouldn't know why we want to.

No offence, but the question enquired about need as opposed to want.
    Retracted.

Yeah, i was not interested in the want. Not my cup of tea, but if thats your thing go for it. I was curious about why you would need an exemption. Religious, mediacal? etc etc.

I never asked him why when he shadowed me for a group ride. He just volunteered to shadow me out of the blue. Turned out to be one of the best I have ridden with, great roadcraft, knowledgable advice, stuck with me like something really sticky during the ride, and extremely responsible while still having a beaming smile. Was as good as a top-notch lesson without being intrusive. I would say he has a pretty good reason .

    Very true.

I remember holidaying in the Greek Islands every year, twice a year throughout the 80's & and early 90's.

It was so much fun hiring a 250cc bike and touring the islands wearing shorts, flip flops and nothing else

And:..............I'm still alive to tell the tale

Hellll, I should start threads more often.

    Where to sdto start:

: Scutters, I have holidays from the 18th & again let me know when you want to go out again; this wednesday is better than this thursday, so th 6yh not the 7th.

: bubble wrap & a zip tie ? this is second degree safety i.e. if I have a crash I'll be O.K. WRONG on the secondary safety concept, some of you ugly fellas need your heads covered at allll times.

Primery safety is: " being switched on and doing everything in your power to avoid a crash. that includes not going thru a green light if some twat is going thru ared one one your right or even your left hand side.

: I am the first to admitt that on the spectrum of folk who are bonifiede worthy helmet exemption receipients, I am at the lower end of the spectrum. My brother who I encouraged to get an exemption years ago is near sick that he can no longer get one.

    Medical
If it was on religeous grounds I would be covered also for it is not right that a man should pray with his head covered ( insert chapter and verse, it is in there somewhere)
So I do not have to be a sikh. All sings are Sieke's but not all sikh's are Singes.
    Regards,

    Sooty.

    Another perfect day in paradise.
