How do I fix Vibrating Mirrors?

The mirrors on my ER6N vibrate quite a bit anything above about 40km/hr and at 60-80 they are all but useless. The mirrors are not wobbly or loose, everything is blurred in them. The previous owner added an extra nut to try and dampen the vibration but it didn't help. They put renthal bars on the bike too. I've asked at the Kawasaki dealers what I can do but didn't really get much joy. One suggested trying mirror extensions but at $90 for the pair I didn't really want to spend that much if it wasn't going to work.

I know I have to expect some vibration but I'm hoping someone can suggest something that will make my mirrors a bit more useful!

might be silly but if you added a rubber insert where your mirror bolts onto the bike could it take some of the vibration out?

Try weighted Bar ends if the above suggestions fail...

If at end of tether for ideas, fill the bars with Lead shot. Should take most vibration out of the bars

ER6n is notorious for rattling up front like that. It's character.

Rubber mounts could help reduce it.

Was gonna suggest weighted bar ends or a rubber mount if possible, but since they have both been done, try dropping down a gear get out of that rev range and that might help, it works on the r1.

To reduce vibration you have to either increase the mass of the mirror or decrease the stiffness of the stalk.

easier to increase the mass of the mirror by gluing s a weight on them.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll give them a try over the weekend. I seem to remember the previous owner telling me they had filled the bars with sand. When i did an internet search there were a few comments about how bad the mirrors can be but I had a 2009 ER6N as a loan bike last year and it didn't seem so bad. Any improvement would be a bonus. I think the mirrors are OEM. Anyway a project for the weekend.

    Remove the battery? jks

Or get a rubber "O" ring and stick it on the bolt to absorb vibrations....if that makes any sense

    Hi Lou;

I've got an 09 Versys with the same problem (funny that...).

I've just fitted the Motowerk mirror widening kit and not only can I see past my big fat shoulders - the vibes have disappeared to a large degree. I think its on the basis of what Likefry said above about decreasing the stiffness of the stalk by adding another element to the base.

Might be worth a try on your ER??

    Cheers

There I was about to do a search on vibrating mirrors on kawasaki's and here is this thread at the top of the page already.

650P has the same problem. It does promote head checks as Thro suggested. I was curious to see WTF the big silver blurry thing was in the mirror.....Oh look, its a land cruiser!

Probably made worse by the renthals, If you can get the stock bars back on, they are probably not as stiff.
