If the SPY main module supports it, there will be another small 3 pin plug close to the module

There's no trigger wire for adding external sensors. The shock sensor is built into the module, and the only real external trigger is the Ignition On feed. Most of the tilt sensor but out much lower voltage than the 12+V that is sent down the Ignition line when it's switched on. I do know of another system almost identical to the SPY system which does have an external sensor port - PM me

So how is everyone finding their alarms? Very interested in buying on but this seems to be the only thread available on the topic.

No problems with either of the ones I installed. The only thing to consider is that the buttons on the remote can be easily pressed, my solution is to hook it onto one of your belt loops on your pants. The batteries in the remotes last about two months (however I use it everyday). I haven't hooked up the remote start though as I don't really see a need for it

Just got mine fitted a couple of weeks ago, hard to say anything at this stage, but definitely seems to be a good deal at this stage.
As Ridges said, buttons are easy to bump, I got home the day it was fitted and set off alarm pulling remote out of pocket. That's only happened once, but I did also deactivate the alarm once by bumping the button after I'd parked the bike and walked away, but fortunately was close enough to the bike to hear the 2 beeps, so just reset it again.

I've had mine on for over a year now, faultless so far. I have the remote start connected as well, this is great for warming up the bike whilst you are still in the house gearing up. More wank factor than anything though. Range is pretty good, about 200m plus - line of sight and about 100m (with a new battery) through buildings etc...
I wired mine up through the KTM alarm harness though, so it is removable and a little more difficult to hotwire. If you use the remote start function, make sure you include the kill switch and side stand switch in your circuit.

Looking at one of these as the alarm in my disc lock is giving me the shits, will it still function only as an alarm without the immobiliser side of things hooked up? Ie; alarm, motion sensor and notification via remote but not using the kill switch part of it.

    Bump.

Im thinking about one of these alarms for my XT600, but being a CDI ignition I wasnt sure if it would work. I stumbled across this pretty comprehensive guide on how to modify your wiring to make it work for older bikes, and thought someone might find it interesting:

Installing a SPY 5000 two-way motorcycle alarm into a Honda 1998 CB250 Nighthawkm assuming it's either the same alarm, or close enough to be useful.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon! Press the brake foot as you roll around the corners, and save the collapse and tie up.

I'm very happy with this alarm so far; hadn't hooked up the remote kill but since reading Hornet's comprehensive guide, will now do so. Still works great without it though, very sensitive, good range & I've got the microwave add-on. A little annoyed that remote start isn't a possibility since I've got HISS & whilst I don't imagine I'd use it very often at all, I like to use the features at my disposal

I think you'd void your insurance if you bypass any immobilisers that are factory installed, even if it is for an alarm. To be honest the remote start is kinda wanky on a modern EFI sports bike. They have auto-choke and a minute or two idling while you put on your helmet before you leave your driveway is more than enough.

Totally agree with you, I should have been a little clearer - wouldnt do it myself - but possible if he wanted too.

im more interested in remote kill

one of the gadgets I play with for work is a GSM box that allows you to control stuff via SMS

Thinking in the next few months of hacking one into the bike as an alarm system (ie so it sends you an sms when alarm activated etc) as well as wiring it to something like the kickstand switch...

Idea is if someone was to break into the house, grab the keys and ride away you can SMS the bike, activate the switch and kill it wherever it is.. they could start it in neutral, but it would die as soon as they kicked a gear

Idea is not original - there are units out there to do exactly that, I just like tinkering.....

Edit: realised im taking thread off topic - ill save it and post up a how to once I have one working

    Hi Everyone,

Just bought a R6 with this alarm installed. After testing the alarm to see if its all functioning (turning it on while the alarm was on etc) it is all working very well.

The only thing that has occured after testing is the blue LED light is flashing 4 times in a row, with around 2 second delay and then flashing again 4 times in a row. This occurs when the bike is armed or disarmed, I am assuming this is the alarm telling me that the alarm has gone off. Prior to this it would flash once every few minutes.

What I was wondering is there a way to reset the alarm? I have tried a couple of things so far.

    1) Pressing the disarm button and then turning on the bike. - No change to the flashing.

    2) Unplugging the battery - This works to an extent. After unplugging the battery and plugging it back in it goes back to flashing once every few mintues. However if I arm the alarm again and then disarm it, it will begin to flash 4 times again when disarmed.

Currently I have simply unplugged the LED as it has its own dedicated plug, so the alarm runs prefectly fine without it. But I wouldn't mind getting the flash working again if possible.

Any ideas? Is there a reset method that I have missed?

    Thanks for your help

    Brendan

How did you go Brendan? Sort it out. I am 99% sure it tells you in the manual how to reset the 4 times Flash.
