    Motorcycle head cam

Just picked up this "chewing gum spy camera" off ebay for 15 bucks. I also ordered an MD80 but it hasnt arrived yet. Its so small you can stick it in front of your mouth piece without interruption (unless you have a big nose). Ive yet to test it out but ill whack up the test footage when i do. The footage itself is pretty decent (i mean for 15 bucks its crazy), the audio is what lets it down. Im going to try putting tape or foam over the mic hole to minimize wind noise, however, if that doesnt work i might try solder in a good external mic which i can then slip into my helmet.

Ok. I wrapped the whole camera in electrical tape since the wind gets in from everywhere. It improved the audio massively and the wind noise at 100km/h is almost 0. I can talk without a pile of wind masking my voice. I have 2hrs of test footage however its looking at the ground (didnt angle the camera up enough) DOH! So ill angle that more, test it out and then upload some more. I might upload a little snippet of it just so you can hear the audio is good and the quality is pretty good too.

Changed the mounting position so that it isn't looking at the ground. I couldn't mount it in front of my face as it would hit my cheek or nose with the angle i needed and it was annoying. I then mounted it off to the side. Now i no what your thinking and the visibility is fine. Since there is a gap on the side i can still see out of the corner of my eye and it only blocks about 1/50th of my vision. Anyway here it is, test video will be up soon.

does it have to go that way up? if it can layover... put it on the top of the visor area within the helmet... if that makes sence.

Or just velcro it onto the outside, just below the visor, where your mouth would be...?
Perhaps put a piece of plastic or leather over it to keep bugs off it?

I did not think of that. That gives me more visibility. Might give it a go. Cheers.

I got several small mounts with my MD80, I've used double sided tape to attach it to the top of the helmet, with a lanyard through the helmet strap just in case. Works fine as long you don't go over 180 Km/h - which I don't of course, ever, as that would breaking the law and unnecessarily putting my fellow road users at risk.

Alright so here is the new and improved version of the head cam. Looks like its going to fall off but its pretty dam strong. It doesn't block my vision, i can see a black "haze" if i look up but it wont block my vision required for normal riding. Unless i want to see a pretty bird that's flying up above. Thanks goes out to #124 for the idea. Anyway i wont bore you with writing so here are some pics.
    Flame away.

So now you're probably wondering (then again most likely not) "but now the film will be on its side". Well, i put the video into Sony Vegas 8.0, rotate it and crop it so that it looks nice. Turns out pretty good. Test videos up soon.

From off with no light, press power button once, a solid blue light should be visible, press top button once (grey), the blue light stays solid and the red flashes which means its recording. Press top button again to stop recording, wait until the red light stops flashing and press power button again to turn it off.

NOTE: If only solid blue light is shown and nothing else works it means its flat and needs charging. Plug it into the computer for about 2-3 hours for a full charge.

Does yours have a button for power on/off or a slider? The ones with buttons are fakes, apparently.. And have a plastic case - not metal?

Mines not an MD80, it has a metal case and slider buttons.
My brothers MD80 is a fake but it has good footage. Needs more angle up though.

Mines a plastic fake with push buttons too, but the footage is good. At the price I paid, that's good enough. Sounds like the OPs handbook was written by the same people that did mine, gotta love Engrish.
