    Nail in my Tyre

Hey guys, not sure if its something to worry about, but today i noticed a moderatly sized nail in my tyre, ive never had this before.. Should i take it out and get it patched up? or keep it in and see if it looses compression? =/ A new tyre would be costly for me at the moment.

im pretty sure a patching will cost you about 60 bucks anyway, how much tread is left on the tire?

If it was me, I wouldn't leave it in there. I'd get it sorted ASAP. Wouldn't want have a blowout or even just get stranded somewhere with a flat.

$50 will get you a mushroom plug installed, which for a 250 commuter will be fine for the life of the tyre.

I just had one done at Motorcycle Pitstop in North Perth.

I got one done there too - unfortunately ddin't work - or there was some other leak we didn't spot, mine was SERIOUSLY bad and the nail had been in there for some time before I cottoned on.

.....will all depend on the hole created by the nail too - Craig @ M/bike pitstop will tell you if it's worth doing, but worth a go if you can, as far as I'm concerned.

Sadly I had to get a new tyre

I've had the waxy cloth strip type DIY plug installed by a "perfeshnal" only to pop out again a couple of weeks later just pottering about the city.

I trust the mushroom plugs, but those DIY ones (to me anyway) are just to get you out of the shit and to a shop to get the thing fixed properly.

definitely get it patched sooner rather than later you can end up with damage to the steel or textile belt layers in the long term, never had the problem on a sportsbike tyre but i usually get a tube fitted after a puncture on my car and atv type tyres, a bit of extra insurance after the plug.

go supercrap auto or similar get a kit and do it yourself. ive plugged atleast 5 and had no problems, all those tyres blew from burnouts none of the plugs failed or fell out.

p.s. if its a 180 / 55 and you decide to buy a new one ill take it off your hands
