    Oil On Tyre

Trying to find out about removing some oil I found on tyre edge. Believe or not I actually found it when I slide, just thought I was riding awesomely - but no, it was oil - damn

When they put the new Power Pros on my bike they used contact cleaner to wipe down the surface and remove the shiny skin. Give that a try.

It's a Ducati... it's meant to put oil there....

But seriously oil on the tire can shorten a bike very quickly. If it is very minor, it will get absorbed into the tire and/or worn away without any issues. But if there's enough oil to be wet to the touch, you need to seriously find and fix what's causing it.

Yer, checked bike over for leaks but none, yes NONE found. Got a feeling that kids have been playing near bike, it's just a little in one of the grooves but I do still have some shine on the edge of tyre. Just want to clean off. Living over on the Gold Coast, it's twistey heaven, but need confidences when leaning over, especially ME lmao

Is the oil on one side of the tyre only?
What Duc is it? Check your oil pressure switch and the hose tocyour underseat catch can if you have one.
I'm betting it's your oil pressure switch leaking.

The only thing that will wear in a tyre is wear.
You need to heat the tyre up to properly remove the release agent. CO cleaner won't do a huge deal at all.

WDS ^^ contact cleaner will remove anything that may have gotten on the tyre in the fitting or storage process, and my give you more confidence in the wearing in process but it is kind of a placebo effect i've still noticed squirm in clean tyres on virgin tread that disappears once it's worn in.

Worn in generally involves some hard riding and heat cycling.

If you are referring to the shininess remaining from the release agent used in the tyre manufacturing process you can use CRC CO Contact Cleaner.

Being a master at cleaning up oil spills from all sorts of places, due to the fact I work in the shit all day and make a colossal mess, I suggest you go ride through some real fine saw dust. Short of that go ride in some fine sand for a bit then wash it off with a pressure cleaner.

I m a little confused by this thread now... What is actually on your tyre? are we talking (engine) oil? or are we talking release agent?

I wouldn't be using contact cleaner on my tyres for anything it can have a really nasty effect on some rubbers and plastics. As someone said fine sawdust or sand or if you want to try and wash it off preen the laundry presoaker.

Have never had the problem but maybe detergent and a scrubbing brush followed by lots of water and a different scrubbing brush?

I'm also confused in the fact that Queensland still has roads that you can ride on... Isn't the whole state currently a lake?

(apologies for the cheap shot there)

The CRC CO contact cleaner is "meant" to be plastic safe. The NF type is nasty to plastics
